Oh, I get it now, someone says "Hmm, interesting" to him, and he replies "What's interesting?" All is clear now!

There's just one thing. Like the guy above, I am confused over one thing: Why is he saying "What's "interesting"?"
It suggests someone told him something was "interesting" and he doesn't know what the word means... or something. It's the quotation marks that are confusing really...
