Description During the mid-20th century, the Imperial Kelinian Army Air Service (predecessor to the Imperial Kelinian Air Force) needed a new fighter/escort aircraft.  As the aging fleet of DA-23 Whimbrels were quickly becoming obsolete compared to the contemporary aircraft of the time.  Thus the engineers and designers at Doddson Aviation Corporation would develop and manufacture the DA-40 Albatross.  The Albatross was originally designed as an improvement upon the DA-23, but would become its own design after a few tests were made on the first prototype.  The only thing that remained the same, was the DHI-224 radial engine, which was the standard engine of the IKAAS, and maintenance crews would not have to be trained on a new engine.  Other than the engine, the radio would be upgraded to ImW 7 airborne receiver/transmitter.  Pilots found the Albatross to be a massive improvement over the Whimbrel, as the dihedral angled wings helped the aircraft maintain stability in flight.  Once a suitable amount of DA-40s were produced, the DA-23 was put in reserve or sold to other militaries.  When war broke out, the Albatross had a K : D ratio of five to 1, as it could outclimb other aircraft, and mainly targeted enemy bomber formations.  Many Kelinian aces would start their killstreaks in an Albatross, and some would stick with the Albatross.  By the middle of the war, the IKAAS would upgrade the DA-40 Albatross, which had already seen many upgrades to improve it.  The DA-40H Albatross, the final variant of the aircraft would continue to rack up victories by the end of the war.  Seeing over a dozen variations and exports to Kelinian allies, the Albatross would cement itself as one of the greatest aircraft manufactured in history.  Many museums and air force bases would put Albatrosses on display, with various non-profit organizations would keep a variety of examples airworthy.  Going from an improved early interwar design, to a successful platform until the Jet Age, the DA-40 Albatross flies on through history.
