Nice! Apparently a few days ago we had a big Aurora show here in North America, even in south USA which is unusual. Unfortunately it was cloudy where I live. Haven't seen Aurora's here in years, wish I was back in Iceland to see them like you do.

May I make a suggestion? I think you could increase the contrast or raise the black levels to darken the sky - because I'm guessing it appeared darker at the time. Of course the long exposure from the camera will brighten the scene.

Ok, I tried playing around with it a little bit. What do you think? Better? I might reupload the pictures I've put up but I'm not sure yet... [link]

Yeah, I think it's better. If it were me I'd make it even darker, and try to darken the bottom as well to compensate for the light from the horizon. But it's personal preference, and I wasn't there, so I don't know how dark the sky really was. I just like the look of the aurora on a dark background.

I don't know how to darken specific parts I'm a total noob at this, and I think if I darken too much with what I have, the northern lights start to get too grainy and weird. But I could get used to it if I did little at a time and got used to it in between. I want it to look good and you're a better photographer so I trust your judgement

Don't worry, photo editing is something that gets easier with practice. And there's only so much you can get out of a photo. But which program are you using?

Erm, just something that came with the camera, it's called ZoomBrower EX but you can edit in it

You could try a program like GIMP, which is a free Photoshop alternative. It will probably give you more control over the photo, if you're interested.

Thanks I'm wary about changes, I get worried that I overdo it and the lights will come out funny but I'll try next time...

This is so pretty! We actually had a rare view of this all the way down our way the other evening...however I was unaware of it until it had already happened, so I missed it!!
