Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes. I started this for conceptart.org's Character of the Week but due to circumstances wasn't able to finish in time. But it's good practice so I finished it anyway!Fire halo is a brush by ~XResch : [link]

They were supposed to be something like grasses or palm leaves but I like sea urchins better, now that you mention it. From now on yes, they are sea urchins.

haha, okay. XD It just reminded me of them. I just got back from Hawaii on my senior class trip, and while I was there I got to go snorkeling. There were tons of sea urchins.

This is AMAZING!! It has the feel of Hawaiian art, and every element of this piece is clearly thought out and masterfully executed. Her pose is so regal, her attire is just PERFECT (that necklace. THAT. NECKLACE.), and her expression...that is the look of a goddess.
I was thinking how her skin was on the light side, but then I realized that it has the tone of volcanic ash and nodded in approval. X3
Being from Oahu, I've grown up with Pele like most kids grow up with a Boogie Man. She is the badass of the Hawaiian deities, and there are many stories of her appearing before modern day people and of her punishment towards those who take her lava rocks. You really have encompassed so much of who she is to Hawaii people and what she represents, and your art is really gorgeous. Have to save this to my desktop!
P.S. I have to tell you that when my cousin walked past my room and saw this on my desktop, she thought I was looking at a picture of Jesus...

That, is awesome! My favorite part is definitely the lava flowing from her necklace and down her body. I keep thinking "OUCH!" and then "She's a goddess, it doesn't burn HER!" and then "HOT FIRE GLOW, WOW!"
Volcanoes and lava and fire and obsidian are some of my very favorite things, and Pele is a great embodiement of them all, which you definitely captured and gave life to!
