Description I saw ~Hathien603 's beautiful drawings of her gypsy vanner mare, Arya, and I was inspired to do a piece on my one and only drafty horse, Maelo! He's a paso fino/draft stallion. I apologize for the shadows from the scanner, once again.

The front legs were done using a reference from my "Horses and Horse Care" book. I just couldn't get that right front hoof to look decent on my own! Overall, I think this is my best drawing of Maelo yet, and he needed some attention. Enjoy.

God is he gorgeous? Yeah!

What pencils are you using? I am in love with your technique! Way prettier than mine!

Thankyou so much! I use regular Crayola colored pencils and buy the pack of 50. I find them much less temperamental and certainly less expensive than Prismacolors. I think you're being a bit too hard on your style, Missy! I appreciate the compliment, nonetheless. Glad you like my boy.

So cool. That front leg marking looks like a wing.

Thanks! I never really thought of it as a wing, but that's pretty cool.

Awww Maelo!!! I just love him so much
Man, what a pose! Angled galloping shots are so hard to do I like his back and rump area, it turned out very nicely
I can tell you had a bit of a problem with the front-right. It's flung a little too far up but that's easier to point out than to fix, I know x]
His mane looks really cute flying up, he's just a cute horse altogether
Very good job on both him and the bg ^^
I'm glad I could inspire

Thanks so much! I really like it too. It was actually an amazing pose to do and taught me a little more about shading non-profile horses. Still a ton to learn about shading. *shoots self* Flung up too much? But I used an exact reference! Oh, well... We'll work on that. Thankyou for the input, friend.

You're welcome! ;D
New poses are really good to help figure out shading! And I even mix things up on my profile horses sometimes, you can always do the light coming from behind or to the side...ohh the decisions I've found out doing that that I have a ton to still learn about shading
Really? Where'd you get your ref from? A book? I want to seee x]

It was a tiny picture of a draft galloping from my "Horses and Horse Care" book. The size of it might explain my inability to copy the hoof correctly. The book has a Trakehner on the front; you've seen it at school, I think.

Yeah I remember that book ^^
Lol, I know all about those small pictures When I used to draw deer I'd copy them out of little clippings in the Cabelas Magazines x]
