Description Well, guess what - I decided to make an art about another fictional sport in the Homeheroes universe, why not. However, contrary to Zoneball this one is not a football code, but an indoor variation of it.

Arena Soccer was developed in North America during the mid-90's, as an informal and practical form of playing the sport: like other indoor soccer methods, the area of play and the number of players per team is reduced to the point that any indoor arena that holds ice hockey can hold arena soccer. However, the rules of this variation differs in many ways to the ones from most standard indoor soccer leagues, being more close to the original outdoor form but adding some original rules and parameters.

The basics of this game are the basics of soccer: score the most number of goals in a determined time by using any part of the body besides arms and hands to conduct a ball to the opposite goal post. This variation is contested by two teams of six players (five linesmen and a goalkeeper), in a 200 x 80 ft. (61 x 26 m) turf field. Goal posts are 6'6"x13'1" (2 x 4 metres) wide. The official arena soccer ball is made of the same materials of standard soccer balls, but has 29.5 inches (75cm) of circumference and must weigh from 12 to 12.5 ounces (340 to 354 g). Contrary to universal indoor soccer rules, though, arena soccer lacks walls, so the ball can go out of play through both side and end extremities. A match is divided into four quarters of 12 min. each. If appliable, two halfs of 6 min. each can be applied as extra-time to decide a tied match. Substitutions are unlimited, but can only be performed with the clock stopped. Players who commits fouls can be punished with yellow card (warning), blue card (3 minutes out of play) or a red card (ejected from the match). The offside rule is the same of field soccer (contrary to universal indoor soccer rules as well).

But one of the attractive features of arena soccer is pictured here: a certain informality regarding the kits. Although the rules of clothing might be basically the same established by the Laws of the Game , there is a bigger range of allowed clothing pieces as well as shoes. In brief, players can come up with their preferred kind of kit, but a team need to use the same pattern and colors. For instance, Shosaru is seen here using a "sailor fuku" and tabis instead of cleats; a teammate can use kimono and cleats, but must have yellow upperbody and red lower body pieces. As expected, anything light - like that American football kind of shorts of Venice, the fitness shorts seeing on Nelly or those volleyball knee and elbow pads Belle is sporting - can be used. Players can also opt from sport spikeless shoes (indoor cleats, tennis shoes, climbing shoes etc.) to simple  options, like just socks, ankle supports, wrapped bandages or anything like that (such as Sho's tabi early mentioned) to even completely bare feet.

Although it was conceived focusing on amateurism, thanks to a succesful development and propagation - reinforced by significant partnerships with sports brand NextGen¹ and energy drink brand Rawshock¹ - such variation became the third most played form of soccer in the world (topped only by futsal and the regular 11-a-side soccer). Many countries have their own main leagues and tournaments, and there are also continental and worldwide competitions.

Our girls here, though, just take part on it in amateur levels. It's one of the main sports available in the Basin County they like to play, and although just for fun they do play to win. Every year, the Hillport Community Center (a social and recreational center) holds an arena soccer tournament known as "The Diplomat Cup", where three teams representing the colonies plus one formed by locals or any North Americans living in the Basin County play once against each other and then in a four-team single-legged knockout stage (two semi-final matches, a third-place playoff and a final match).

The four women's teams are depicted there: Venice playing for the "home team", the North American Superstars; Ye-ye and Nelly playing for the Latin American colony team, Latinas Calientes (or simply Las Calientes); Belle playing for the "Old Continent" colony team, the Euroqueens; last but not least, Shosaru playing for the Asian colony team, the Asian Dragonesses. In a few occasions, the HCC forms a city team - the Hillport Mermaids -, gathering the finest players of these four teams to play against other city teams from the Basin County, and in rare occasions, against other teams across America in national amateur competitions.

I've heard there's something similar to blitzball (a sport from Final Fantasy X) in real life. Someday my friend, your sports will become real.

I like learning about things, so I thought this was cool! Of course, I really don't mind the footwraps a couple of the ladies are wearing.

...say, do any female soccer players actually wear those?

Well... I've seen a few women playing soccer with them, but just "everyday athletes", not professional ones.
