Born in a humble family of Japanese immigrants, since her childhood Lupe always appreciated the culture of her Eastern ancestors, even if some of her Peruvian relatives didn’t feel too easy with that - including her mother. The more she grew, the more she adapted to herself the traditions of their ‘issei’ ancestors, yet she didn’t let some of her Latin personality features fade. When she turned 17, life still peaceful and uneventful, with her normal daily tasks of study and help her parents on their Eastern goods shop. Until the day an evil kunoichi clan know as the ‘Shadow Claw’ vandalized her family shop after her. Lupe almost died under a dagger stab from the head of the kunoichi clan, Mizuki Chiyome. Hopefully Lupe’s father made use of his yet-untold ninja skills to fight Chiyome back and protect his daughter. After a tough escape to her grandparents’ shrine in the northern region, in the city of Iquitos, Lupe’s father saw himself forced to explain her what was all that about. Telling that all of her Japanese relatives - the Taiyoko - were all worried about the coming of that day, he told her a story that all the Taiyoko family preferred to hide until then: their family come from a long and ancient generation of ninja warriors known as the Kanawao. Their first ancestors were rivals with the legendary Mochizuki Chiyome, a noblewoman who created a huge network of kunoichis and served the Takeda Clan back in the Heian period in Japanese history, and now her direct descendant Mizuki Chiyome wants to kill all of the Kanawao descendants - which happens to be the Taiyoko family. Back in 1898, her kunoichi ancestor Reiko Kanawao decided to put an end to such senseless duels after being unable to bear with constant threats to her relatives, so the remaining Kanawao agreed to her plan, adopting different surnames and began taking different paths around the world. Reiko went aboard the Sakura Maru, the ship that sent the first Japanese immigrants to Peru, and started a new life under the surname of Taiyoko. Over the years she secretly passed her ninjutsu legacy to her sons and nephews, in order to try to make her future generations honored warriors. Knowing about all that, Lupe promptly put herself up to learn the ways of ninjutsu and extend such legacy, as well as defend herself from any future threats. Since then, even if she hasn’t made the expected progress, her grandparents still believe she has a bright future as a kunoichi. Once in one of her trips to Japan she ran into Shosaru and Tatsui in the restaurant Tatsui works, and soon befriended the two rival-friends after finding out they are also ninjas. Still these days Lupe keeps learning and trading ninjutsu experiences (as well as some adventures) with Sho and Tatsui.

Lupe’s levels of peppiness can amaze one. Some even joke that she exceeds the amount of peppiness her body can support. As a matter of fact, Lupe makes of happiness a lifestyle. She’s hugely positive and seems to be always smiling, and she is capable to see good things on possibly everything. Even when she’s sad or a bit down, she makes sure to keep such negative feelings to herself, because she knows how feelings can be contagious and she’d be caught dead spreading negative feelings. Indeed as a person Lupe is a delightful friend or company. As a kunoichi, however, she’s a few miles from regularity: she’s clumsy and quite scared, but even so she reserves some incredible surprises when in action. An aspect of her that highlights itself is her passion for music, dancing, soccer and movies.

Behind the scenes... Lupe wasn't even a permanent OC. She wasn't even Peruvian. She wasn't even "Lupe"!! But she still a ninja girl, though. She was just a temporary character that Charles helped in an old homemade comix story of mine. I don't even remember her name back then, all what I can tell is that she was Japanese indeed. So I decided to bring her back and do a major revamp. In her appearance, just the hairstyle changed. As for the rest, a bunch of research to build her biography, such as Japanese-Peruvian history, Mochizuki Chiyome story (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mochizuk… actually that wasn't researched but found out accidentally ) and even how to spell "sunlight" in Japanese (her current Japanese surname).
