Here's my first official character for !
Newfoundlands are near and dear to my heart, so when I wanted a big black dog, I knew he was going to be part newf. <3 I'm really happy with how he came out, the ankh might be a little much, I don't know if I'll keep that or not. Basically, he's the graveyard caretaker's dog, who also serves as a guard dog for the cemetery. He is also a part-time sleuth with DodgerMD 's character Tony.

To address any design questions while he's being considered: his eyes are an orangey brown, not orange. MANY newfs and Shepherd types have that eye color in my experience (I used to groom dogs). Secondly, I realize he has a little bit of a "mane", but frankly, I'd be surprized if he didn't, being a cross from two extremely hairy, poofy breeds, so I feel like in his case the level of hair is pretty plausible. XD That being said, of course, I'm open to mixing it up a little bit to better his odds of getting in.

Defining Features: Grim is a hulking beast of a dog. His body mostly takes after his Newfoundland side, being large, heavy-set, with a dense, water-resistant coat. His face looks more like a Tervuren, but is slightly more jowly. Both breeds in his ancestry contribute to his massive, straight coat, and his semi-floppy ears (they can't decide whether they want to stand up or flop).
Voice: His voice has a deep rumble, and can be made to be quite intimidating, but most of the time it sounds much younger and expressive than others probably expect.

Personality: People and dogs alike usually have a pretty solid expectation of what the large, hulking black dog of the Graveyard Caretaker's personality might be. Grim is in many ways the opposite of what that is. He is intelligent and quick-witted, and very easy going. He often enjoys fooling others before they know him well, leading them on for a while as they assume him to be the somber, intimidating, humorless brute that they expected, before startling them by proving them incredibly wrong. He can in fact be quite boistrous if you find him in a petulant mood, but more often then not you will simply be subjected to his outgoing nature and possibly his morbid sense of humor. He is really a big softy underneath all the loud-mouthery, and he posseses a great level of patience and sentimentality. He has the ability to see the best parts in others that are easily overlooked, and friends of his can expect him to know them better and deeper than most. Being a little off-color himself, he is also willing to put up with a lot of shenanigans and tomfoolery from his friends (especially Tony). He doesn't take a lot seriously, some exceptions being his exploits with Tony and his job of guarding the graveyard. A trespasser on the graveyard should indeed beware, for they'll encounter all 145 pounds of territorial glory.

Pre-Group History: Grim was the result of an unsactioned romance between two backyard suburban dogs in that lived across the fence from one another. His mother's owners didn't even realize she was pregnant until they found her one morning with a litter of unexpected, giant fluffballs. If you can imagine the classic scene of a cardboard box full of puppies on a rainy street corner, that's exactly where Grim's owner found him. He was the last in the box, totally abandoned, soaking wet, and the man's heart was melted. The man who took him brought him to an... atypical home... one that rested just to the side of Canidale's graveyard. The man was the graveyard's caretaker. As the pup grew, the man noticed the dog's resemblance to the old legend of the Grim, which was oddly fitting for both the dog's appearance and his job as the guard dog of a graveyard, so the name stuck. Growing up around this all his life, the things that usually creep out others are all just a fact of life for Grim, contributing to his sense of humor that others can find somewhat dark. He took to his job like a natural, and thrived, becoming a fixture in the graveyard, and to a certain extent the community of the Pets faction. He became someone the local pet pups make up stories about, daring one another to enter the graveyard to face the big black ghost dog. Grim was all to willing to collaborate in the fantasy, chasing them out with great theatricality because he thought it was funny. One night, when he was around two years old, he came across Tony the border collie trespassing in the graveyard, who was looking to solve some sort of caper he had put himself to. At first, Grim's instinct was to chase him out the intruder as was his job, but there was something about the dog that made him stay and speak with him. He found a kindred spirit in Tony, who was not at all judgmental or put off by Grim, and he actually ended up helping Tony on his quest. The two became fast friends, often getting into trouble together, the duo ending up being oddly gifted at solving mysteries. Tony was usually the instigator, pulling Grim in to the thick of it as well.
