Description

a study of Fallout Foods… (a commission for  Scuttlebuttin )

WHAT’S FOR DINNER?:

Scuttlebuttin ‘s OC, Sue’s Favorite: Deathclaw in Aspic with full feast

Deathclaw in Aspic

Shredded Deathclaw meat, peas, and blood carrots garnished with carrot slices, greens, sliced tatos, and a sprig of mint.

Palate - Salty, fatty. Deathclaw meat is cooked in an encasement of Deathclaw bone broth to accentuate flavors.

Scuttlebuttin’s notes -  “ I didn’t find them repulsive but I didn’t love them. The jellied deathclaw come out at all social gatherings in winter and even the sight of the things makes me want to gag. No matter how they tried to make it look good, the texture I could never get pass. It’s definitely Mr.Galloway favorite dish because he dives into that bowl and scoff like it was a bowl of Fancy Lads Snack at a kids table. I can imagine attending a family wedding in the area and Mr.Galloway is the elderly relative who refused to make the trip unless they could have jellied deathclaw on the menu.” Diary from Lovelock (Scuttlebuttins’ OC).

Rye Bread

Dark but nutritious. Usually served warm and spread with brahmin butter.

Sliced Mutfruit

Sweet. Acidic. Extremely messy to eat once cut. Syrupy juice.

Dried Cheese Curds

Made from brahmin milk. Extremely dense and salty.

Cup of Milk

Milked fresh from brahmin. Rich and creamy.

Artist Notes

First, I want to say how much I appreciate that everyone is enjoying my food study series. This was honestly just an endeavor to learn more about textures, light, and sketching methods, but you guys really took it and ran with it!

I have been a huge fan of Scuttlebuttin for 2 years and was pleasantly surprised when they messaged me one day to talk about my thoughts on Fallout foods. We started bouncing back and forth lore-friendly ideas regarding post-apocalypse food items. And so, they commissioned me to help with a few ideas of their own!!!

Since people seem very interested in commissioning me to create their OC’s favorite dishes, I think I will need to sit down and create a separate pricing list for food pieces alone as they range in a different complexity altogether.

Hardest part - turns out cheese curds are a pain

Fun part -  I had a blast studying different artists’ renditions of gelatin and applying my own take on how to do it! AND BREAD TEXTURES!! OMG!!! <3

NUMBER OF ACCUMULATIVE LAYERS IN ENTIRE PIECE - 315

Just because the world has gone to pot doesn't mean we can't be civilized.

Your FO-food-art makes me yearn for a FO4 mod adding a river-side mangerie with the food you draw. <3

If you don't mind some questions from a beginner...

Is this really vector or is it in the wrong section? Or is it a combo of both? What software are you using? If so, that's really impressive. As someone tinkering again with a few different art softwares, but definitely a beginner... why choose to do something with a more "painted" look like this in a vector program? Is there a benefit, or just a personal preference for some reason?

Whoops! Good catch! This is not vector art, it is bitmap. I clicked the wrong one by mistake and will fix that. If you're curious, I am using Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Ah! Ok, that makes much more sense. You can technically do this with vector art, I just don't know why you'd want to unless it needed to be seriously scalable. Still a great piece though!
