This flag, sometimes with the Burgundian Cross at the hoist, or not present at all, was allegedly the flag of the Spanish Netherlands. Whether or not it was actually used I don't know, but several sources apparently show a flag that's at least similar to this. I quite liked the design, so I recreated it like this.

Looks pretty impressive, though I doubt that the Spanish Cross would be that small...

It's a Burgundian Cross, actually. The Spaniards just inherited it along with the Netherlands.
It's not like there's any more space for the Burgundian Cross left on the flag, and this was roughly the size it had on the flags I based this on.

I found this flag in several sources, but many others just use the Burgundian cross instead. The Austrian Netherlands, however, had the same tricolor but with an Austrian Eagle instead, I'm pretty sure it was used.

Yeah, I would have thought they'd just use the Burgundian Cross too. The tricolour isn't too far-fetched though, as you said.
