Been trying to learn how to paint darker skin last couple years also, and I dare say you have absolutely nailed it here! Gorgeous work.

Wow, thank you! Dark skin is pretty hard to get right. I don't think I'm 'there' yet, but I definitely appreciate the vote of confidence!

Well I've gotten ALOT better at darker tones since I painted this, but it's less of a color picking issue and more of a tonal value issue. Like if the background is contrasting the color comes out great but if I use the same colors with a darker or more pigmented background the skin color comes out too light (which just looks weird to me) and I usually darken too much to overcompensate. It's just finding the right balance really, but lately I've been color picking skin from photographs to get palettes that are more accurate. That's definitely helped. Personally I actually much prefer to paint darker skin tones because they look so much more vibrant and alive. When I'm painting a light skinned person I tend to desaturate way too much so my colors can come out flat. Darker skin is much more dynamic and "alive" to me. I wish more people would commission it honestly because the only time I get to do it lately is when I'm doing my own characters but I have less and less time to do those at the moment. So, not gonna lie, I'm kind of excited to do your portrait. lol

Seriously, this could be a photograph that has been retouched to look like a painting. I love her nose, I want to touch it D:
That finished eye looks so ajkflnekjfnjanfe PRETTY.
I'm shy with naming other people's works, but it could do with her eyes and the way she seems to be looking at something.
