Hi there, I'm here from ProjectComment ,
First, let me just say that the piece on a whole is fantastic, possibly on a level of some work from the D&D books themselves (Also a D&D player and somewhat (infamously in my group) fond of Rogues). The Anatomy seems spot on from what I can see, though I'll admit I am certainly no expert in that department. The light source seems perfect and the background is neither dull or crowded.
In all honesty, I can't think of much to criticise on the piece. It's clear (unless I have this severely wrong lol) that you have gone for a comic painted look (possibly inspired by the 3.5e books?) and I'd say you've nailed this to a tee. The character is defined and as mentioned previously the anatomy seems spot on. The work is, in my opinion, easily commission worthy.
I am particularly fond of the light coming in through the windows. I know it's a simple thing to add in, but it adds a touch more warmth to the scene. This does however lead the eyes straight to the mugs on the tray, as if it's some kind of ambrosia lol. Not sure if this was the intended point though!
My only comment of criticism, would be on the choice to wear armour to work!
But great piece, it's gotten you a watch from me

depends on your workplace. Maybe this is a tavern, where an armour for the waiter is a pretty good idea.

Hello from project comment
Fist the OC is amazing I almost killed over reading about an ex thief turned waiter. This is a great opener for a story and I'm sure that this guy is bound for more mastiff and adventure soon. Regardless of what job he tries to carry, his ex bandit friends are going to kidnap him and drag him on some impossible quest no doubt.
The design of the OC is charming. Though my first thought with the apple red hair and apron was of Windey's (sorry) after looking at him the elements actually do fit. He's friendly elvish demeanor is a double plus to the charm. I feel like this is a trust worthy dude who would do a lot for his friends and not so egotistical as the average elf. While also being somewhat of a devil with am impish smile. These are the traits I feel from this character.
For the piece itself all I can give is praise. The background is detailed. Yet you faded it enough to focus on the OC father then his surroundings. You really made the elements such as the chairs, tables and mugs look like real wood with the vivid texture. The movement of the OC is swift and lively. Non of the anatomy seems at all flawed. And most but not least the lighting you give is dazzling beyond words it looks so good I can almost feel the soft warmth of the sin beams pouring through the windowpanes.
You show a ton of skill, Imagination and talent with this work I can honestly say I'm impressed as well as completely in love with your talent and OC

I gotta tell you a secret... at first his apron was striped white and blue and I suddenly realized "dammit he's Wendy" and switched it for yellow so I can understand that that association still exists xD
Thanks again for the kind words! (:

yo yo from
I like this a lot. I like the background and how it's not too focused. I didn't even notice there were people in the table! That's pretty cool, like you got an entire atmosphere right and the more you look at it the more you seee!!!
I'm a bit confuzzeled about his outfit though. The armor...is he a knight? Or is he paranoid about being stabbed? Is it like a elfish situation where not wearing your elf armor can resort to the death punishment?! I don't know but either one would be cool!
Only real criticism is the apron. I think the stripes make it look a bit cluttered. His armor is really detailed already. I think not having stripes can also show just how new to the environment he is. Like he's trying to fit in with the plain people, covering his extravagant armor with a plain apron.
I dunno, just a thought.

Fair point ^^
As for the armor under the apron, it's really just because he's an adventurer and a waiter and I thought it would look humorous together xD

Makes me think of our `gaggle` of vagabonds back in high school. Had a `English` type teacher (format; poetry or open writing... not nationality) back in sophomore year who kept her classroom open for an hour or so after school to sponsor a club, that group did old style D&D\AD&D, I think we also tried Traveller, Runequest, and V&V.
With a few of those kids they 'knew' other kids from the neighboring community, and from that larger circle I made
more friends where we met on weekends mainly at a YWCA playing "the Fantasy Trip" consisting of "MELEE", "WIZARD", and "In The Labyrinth". More Traveller, Tunnels & Trolls, tried a little Gamma World (watch OLD "Thundarr the Barbarian"), but liked "The Morrow Project" better. Long story short, our TFT characters had 'day jobs'. Mine was a `teamster` (truck driver) delivering beers, ales, wines and spirits to upstanding establishments. You see those old `Budweiser Clydesdales` commercials? Trying explaining to your boss you fell asleep at the reins of a 4-horse team lugging 2 Vats of fresh Honey Mead... only for its smell to also lure in a pack of Kobolds!!!
Wait, why'd I fall asleep? You try partying to the wee morning with a Vampire Vixen, a Grey Sorceress of the Dynamic PLANES, and 3, thats THREE acolytes of the `Red Priestesses of Submission` (think Monty Python's 'Holy Grail' with the nuns that Need a spanking).

hi! aivyr from ProjectComment .
asinineCompadre has already covered most of what i would've said :z i'll try and add to that:
building on what's been said on lighting, i'd add that it helps to do shading in "cooler" (i.e. the opposite of warm, though it might well end up being both if you do it right!) colours - that is to say, colours closer to the blue/purple side of the spectrum, and likewise doing lighting/highlights in "warmer" tones closer to red, orange, yellow etc. don't know how that'd work with this piece, but no harm in trying! after all, you always have your first draft. :]
very slight anatomical nitpick: should the side of siv's left cheek be a pinch darker, given where it is? also i don't know if siv's left hand is angled a little too far backwards for a tray-carrying pose - that last bit might just be me .
otherwise, i quite like this piece! really nice lighting and detailing, and the textures are really good - i really should learn how to colour metal and fabric.
keep up the work ^o^

Hello! from ProjectComment here!
TECHNIQUE
- Im not really a great digital artist, but damn your rendering is so good! everything about this in a technical aspect is literally perfect, i like how you blurred the background, i like the streaks of light coming from the window, those specks of dust floating in the air getting hit by the light, just everything is so good! If i could point out one thing its perhaps the bottom half of the apron. it lacks folds and creases that should definitely be there since you have that ribbon pulling it and creating tension. but other than that, everything is great.
COLOR
- The color choice is great too! i like the very neutral palette, full of browns and grays, and then using bright red for the hair. it really creates contrast and really draws the attention to the character. something about colors though, i read that you shouldn't use red for shadows in flesh (like what you did for the hands) because the skin only ever becomes like that when there's a strong light behind it. you know like when you put your finger over a flashlight. but i guess for the color scheme of the piece, it kinda works.
LIGHT
- The lighting is actually really good, everything is coming of from one side, and it makes sense. but there's some things that really bother me. the face kinda looks really reflective, even more so than the metal in the armor. also i assume that that is chain mail under his armor and gloves, chainmail is still metal and is usually very reflective, it would have helped if you had added strong highlights to a small part of them. and lastly, since you did draw the light on the face so bright, we really lose that with everything else, like the mugs or the aprons could have used some strong lighting so that it makes more sense. but really these are all small things that i didnt even notice until looking at it a second time, it still works perfectly fine without these suggestions haha
OVERALL this is a really great piece, with really great composition, colors, technique, and a really interesting subject. there's just some real minor issues when it comes to the lighting, but it still looks great regardless.

It's rare to see a male waiter in fantasy, that's pretty cool! The lighting is nice, it gives the impression that a new day is just getting started, supported by the character's smile and stride. The only thing I'd say is that the expression is a little strange. I think you were trying to make him smile, but he looks a bit uncomfortable. I suggest drawing a bunch of heads just to practice painting expressions.

Hi Its Gamingmetalhead999 from ProjectCOmment!!!
First off, I would like to say that I really find this piece VERY detailed and interesting! YOu had done a pretty good job with the lighting especially! That is actually what caught my attention!! XD. The one thing I really admire about this piece is that there are no messy shadings and everyhting is very smooth. I am impressed how you managed to apply the lighting onto the character and all! His shining armor is what I feel is so eye catching about this piece along with the light shining against it! I like how you had done the flooring of the tavern! I really like the tables chairs and the two people in the background as well! The blur effect in the background gives a movie scene like vibe where the subject character is cleared while the others is blurred. Now its time for some criticism and improvement tips! I would say give the floor a little bit of a texture to give a more realistic effect. Lose the Apron because that does not fit him and his facial features. I would say just his armor showing. If I were the artist, I wouldve given him more of a plain clothing style. I feel armor is more for battle or War. He looks too badass to wear an apron. welp, overall its your artwork and you manage it. I hope you enjoyed my feedback and I hope my criticism wasnt too harsh! XD

A-Hippocampus [2017-09-15 00:11:39 +0000 UTC]
Hi, I'm coming at you from ProjectComment
The most notable thing you have going on here is this character portrayal. Now... I don't like elves- I think they're a boring super-models every D&D beginner defaults to.
BUT
I want to KNOW this ^ guy. It's such a contrast! An elf in food service? One who looks HAPPY at his work?! Look at how daintily he's carrying that tray- I like this Siv character because you've juxtaposed some distinct ideas here.
As for the technical side, I'm having a hard time finding anything to criticize. I like the out-of-focused background of restaurant patrons. The floating particles gives Siv an elvish aura. I think you really nailed the metallic shine on his armor / uniform.
What you can do to improve this is watch how he's twisting in the picture. Siv is showing a lot of the front pane of his chest and a greater part of his booty (not unlike a lot of female superheros on comic book covers)- it looks a bit painful. I know he's probably only momentarily looking back so maybe there's a more fluid way to express this, like showing more of the back pane as he's looking over his shoulder.
Another thing you could do is to give his face color a little more variation (subtle layers of blue and red under the skin) so that it looks more alive.
But the proportions make good sense- his ears are good, and the hands and fingers are well-positioned.
I hope Siv makes some good tips before his next adventure!

A really nice piece. I like, that the apron is placed and bulged in a way, that shows, that there is armor beneath it and not that the armor was only drawn to fill up space. There is just one little thing that caught my eye though... your character has a really clean and sharp silhouette. With 95% of the of the piece, that makes sense, but it would be a really nice detail, if the chain mail on his arm got an outline fitting for it´s structure. This straight outline gives it such a flat feeling.

I really love this character, he seems warm and the background helps a lot. I especially love the details, you can tell the skin tone and the people in the background with it having it blurred. You should definitely continue working on these types of characters and backgrounds. The hands both look amazing but maybe look at thumb proportions and what finger nails are actually like. Although, you did a very good job besides those things!
