Description This is a hand-made clay model of a Dinelurus crassus skull. It was constructed based on three drawn views of a fossil skull, originally excavated from the John Day formation in Oregon in the 1920s.

Dinaelurus crassus is a nimravid, a cat-like creature that evolved before the true cats and paralleled them to a startling extent. It was thought to be a cheetah-like prey-chaser. This model was done as research for a series of novels about prehistoric cheetah-like big cats
