Description
Species Alpha (BLACK HARVEST)
Physical Appearance: BLACK HARVEST stands approximately 3 meters in height and consists of a body that resembles an upside-down triangle or wedge with a heavy nodule on the end closest to the ground, usually held folded up under the body. It is supported on four legs, possesses elephantine skin, and its head consists of a proboscis with four to six tentacles arranged radially around the proboscis. This species is liquivorous, and references to it lacking a poisonous bite do not refer to the digestive enzyme. It possesses a pair of four-fingered manipulator arms at the end of its body closest to the ground. Sensory organs are contained in a fold-out package at the top of its head, and the life form possesses four compound trinocular eyes on top of its head. It is important to note that the infant form of BLACK HARVEST is a non-sophont life form. At this stage of its life, BLACK HARVEST is to be referred to as Species Alpha (SOLEMN VIPER). Individual SOLEMN VIPER are not to be treated as anything more than a pest and eliminated from Point Zero if encountered there using wildlife containment procedures. SOLEMN VIPER is approximately ten centimeters to a meter in length and possesses a thick black carapace. This carapace hides six legs studded with tooth-like projections, as well as a pair of probosces that can extend to a length equal to half its body length. The bite of SOLEMN VIPER possesses, in addition to the digestive enzyme of the adults, a deadly neurotoxin. SOLEMN VIPER is not to be legally considered a sophont until it can detect the pheromone trails of adult BLACK HARVEST.
Other: Species Alpha (BLACK HARVEST) appears to have small family groups consisting of no more than ten and does not appear to create extended social networks. BLACK HARVEST are also monolith builders, and favor the open desert regions of the southern edge of the quarantine zone. It should be known that this species can see in the infrared spectrum, and much of its art consists of black and white streaks meant to absorb or reflect infrared radiation. They have a primary belief in “nature spirits” that exist in the nature of “everything” that have a supportive and nurturing side as well as a “devouring” side that can cut, harm, or even eat the individual who displeased it. A simple example would be that a person working with a complex machine must be careful not to upset the devouring side of any of the components, lest he cut himself. They believe that these beings are the dead who have ceased to cycle back to the world, and have set aside the passions of mortality. Their “evil” behavior is meant only to teach or punish, not an act of maliciousness. They connect this with the nature or their justice system, which dismembers, vivisects, or even eats transgressors, and the way they treat SOLEMN VIPER until it is capable of detecting their pheromone trails.
Technology: BLACK HARVEST does not posses any technology that poses a threat to national or international security at this time. BLACK HARVEST possessed reasonable understanding of mechanical processes and had invented a precursor to coal-fed engines prior to its abduction by PROBABLE CAUSE. Generation Zero individuals are culturally capable of learning to use and understanding modern mechanical equipment.
