Elias was apprehensive, and for good reason. The Eltilt stallion Riagan was still very wild, and the few training sessions they had did not go over well. But competitions suitable for winged horses were few and far between, so he and Kelly decided that they could not pass up the opportunity. The trip to USV would serve as a nice vacation, anyway.

            Riagan was surprisingly compliant as they pulled him from the trailer and began tacking him up. Thousands of unfamiliar smells filled his nose, and every other minute he was whinnying at a fellow horse across the field. Elias prepared by adorning his goggles and helmet, and by attaching a safety cord to the saddle with a pocket knife in his belt in case it needed cut. Riagan was twitching with what Elias thought was anticipation, but as they lined up at the starting point he realized that the stallion was almost reluctant to go. Riagan may be in charge back home, but he was not the king of these mountains.

            They charged forward as the gun went off, and everything was a blur for the first part of the course. Riagan soon realized that he did not know what to do with certain obstacles, so he trusted Elias to be the pilot for perhaps the first time in their career together. They flew low over fields and high through the mountains, maintaining a steady pace the entire time. As clouds began to darken the afternoon sky they came upon a dense forest, and it took both of them working together to navigate it. Elias gripped tightly with his knees as branches and leaves cut his face; his eyes were watering so badly that he almost missed the arrow that told them to surface above the trees. He nearly slipped off the back of the saddle as Riagan surged upward, and with a few pumps of his wings they were well above the trees. Elias sighed as they paused for a moment, feeling a few raindrops on his skin and hearing a low brontide in the distance. Then they were off again, sailing low over the trees and keeping an eye out for their next challenge.

I swear, the day I upload a show entry on a day that isn't either the day it's due or the day before, it will be the end of the universe as we know it. Regardless, this will be one of the last show entries of the year. I may do one more, but I'd like to get CRF packed up and moved out before the end of the year, as well as introduce a few new faces!
