I always found the original 2D animated Lion King characters far more expressive than their realistic CGI counterparts.

Yeah, but 2D can't do everything, besides it would take much more longer if they animated the stampede traditionally. The animation is mostly imperfect.

Maybe, but thatβs not the point here. The single most important thing animation can do, be it 2D or 3D (that replicates traditional 2D style and doesnβt try to force itself to be realistic), is that it can give personality to literally anything because it can exaggerate them in a way that canβt be done in real life. In this case, an animal such as a lion can have humanlike facial expressions and gestures, so that audiences can easily identify them, and thus making them connect with the story around them.

Yeah, but people didn't seem to mind it with The Jungle Book, though they were more expressive there.
