Description: Marshtomp is a complete amfibian and not, like its pre-evolution Mudkip, a link between fish and amfibians. It spends most of its time on land: only for hunting does it return to the water. This is why its bright orange gills have been preserved through it's evolution. The gills also serve as bait. Marshtomps hunting technique is that of an ambush: it buries itself in the bottom of shallow waters and makes sure that it's gills are visible just above the ground. Small fish think the gills are worms, try to attack and are eaten without much trouble. This way of hunting is a necessity for Marhstomp, because its body is not built for speed in water. Its strong legs make sure it doesn't slip in the mud, but they are not well suited for swimming and in evolution, Marshtomp exchanged its tail for two fins on its hind legs, which provide extra resistance in heaps of mud. The soles of Marshtomps paws are covered with thick, raw hide that provides maximum friction with the ground it walks on. Marshtomps skin is covered with a slimey substance, which must stay humid at all times. This is why it never ventures far from water or mud: if you find a Marshtomp wandering aimlessly through a field or garden, try to return it to water. The slime protects Marshtomp from parasites and infections. In winter, Marshtopm digs itself into the mud. The slime then freezes around it, so it basically provides itself with a cocoon it can savely spend the winter in, in an almost comatose state. Its fins are dark blue to black and are used to catch the warmth of sunlight. In some countries, they are served as delicacies in expensive restaurants.

Hmm, if its living in a muddy system and its an ambush predator, one would think it would a more muddy camoflague. Though through my trivial classification habit, this one is a bit of a mystery. It shares many lungfish qalities in behavior, like the burrowing and the cacoon and slimy surfaces, as well as lobe appendages instead of true feet. I would think the slimy surface and the humid environemtn would lead to cutaneous breathing, as an amphibian trait. Very cool
