Description This was made after I saw Sandro Botticelli's "Birth of Venus". I was just thinking about how weird it was for Venus to be "born" out of the sea as a full-grown woman, so I thought it would be fun to imagine her as a child.

I figured she must have been bored living in that shell and going throught the stages of her life, so I made a toy I thought she would like... And now it's forgotten at the bottom of the sea, because she doesn't need it anymore. The rays of light were supposed to represent that as a sort of heavenly prescence looking down on the shell, as if it's being left behind. So yeah... And the toy is so colorful to reflect the nature of childhood, and how everything is so vivid when you are young, as Venus would (might) have been.

Thanks to the new Signs/Symbols book that I have, I've been doing this to a lot of my art now! It's really fun!

Oh! And the animal's are all fun sea creatures:
From Left to Right: Elephant Seal, Sea-Lion, Sea-Horse, Tiger-Shark, and Sea-Cow

Sorry if the proportions on the animals kinda suck... I didn't use a reference picture for anything... Except the clam, I guess... So yeah...

Absolutely brilliant concept. I commend you for originality. I love it. And I love the sort of story you've come up for it too.

I'm really glad you like it! It's always awesome to be inspired by the work of a master of la Renaissance! But thanks a lot! I appreciate the comment a ton!

Very neat concept~!

You've managed to portray it really well, and the overall result is really beautiful <3 Your coloring is really great~~ I love the highlights you used in the clam and all of the blends that you used on the animals ^^ The colors blend together really nicely, and your shades are also very effective <3 The perspective that you used on the animals looks great though I think the shadowed animal on the righthand side could have been drawn a bit more to the side, so it didn't look as if he were completely disappearing behind tiger type animal >w< The lion's paws could be improved a bit but overall the animals look great <3

The overall composition in this is really well done, but the positioning of the clam could be lifted, I think. What I mean to say is: The picture is cropped in a way that cuts the clam off from the picture on the bottom, and I think you could have drawn the clam a bit higher; near the center of the page in order to make it look more balanced. It's just a suggestion, but overall it doesn't take away from the picture ^3^

Overall, beautiful traditional work~!

WOW! Thanks for the wonderfully thoughtful critique! I really appreciate the time you took to look at my drawing!

I have to thank you, also, for your kind comments, and I definitely have to agree with your observations about the spacing of the animal behind the tiger, and I guess the next time I draw something I should take a couple references from the internet if I want it to look more realistic (because, as you've said, the lion's paw does look a bit strange! ).

I understand what you're saying about the clam being towards the center (origianlly it was, but it got cut out of the picture! ) Unfortunately, as far as the cropping goes, I can't change that without taking another picture (which I can't do now, since I don't have a quality camera!), but thanks a lot for the advice, I'll keep that in mind!

Thanks very much again! It means a lot!

It was my pleasure~!

References are great! ^__^ They make things so much easier when you're drawing <3

Ohh~~ I see ^w^ So it was because you took it by camera.. Ah well, I'm sure the original finished piece is even better than owo

You're very welcome~!

It's nice and the concept of it is interesting. The lion's paw seems a bit..off though. But it's cool over all.
