Description A reflection of a window in my house in Mdina. Taken at dawn on the 20th May, 2007.

I just couldn't sleep, so I got out of bed and decided to take some shots.

Aplogoies for the rather large size, but it's the best I could do, as any more compression would block up the wall on the right.

The colours are just brilliant! This is a very clear and sharp picture that deserves credit for detail! The reflection is amazing!

Oh and I love the discrete Name placement

Haha the discreet naming is simply a game I play on some of my photos, whenever I remember. It's also a way to help protect my images.

Thanks for compliments... this is a picture I worked hard to get right

I'd have loved to! But even if I rotate a little bit, I lose some of the corners on the window

It would be lovely to straighten it, but sadly I tried and when I do I end up chopping off some of the stained glass in the window. Sorry!

I like it but i agree with shawn, i think a portrait shot would've been better. but kudos on capturing the sunrise so well in the reflection!

Shypii90 [2007-05-29 18:27:51 +0000 UTC]

its all about composition
the reflection and lighting are great
but thers too much wasted space in d shot - the black wall on the right, too much of the brown stone all over
and the window's vertically oriented so i think a portrait shot would have benefitted...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Redandwhite In reply to Shypii90 [2007-05-30 13:04:36 +0000 UTC]

Hmm what about simplification as part of my compsition? Have you any doubt what the subject is?

Wasted space & Portrait mode suggestion - you're right. Period.

However think about my limitations.
I only had 3x zoom so I couldn't get closer,
and I seldom crop, as I believe in Cartier Bresson's theory that cropping is the easy way to a good composition (never mind that's for another day though! ).

The tripod used doesn't rotate into portrait mode, another limitation. I didn't crop it into portrait mode for the same reason as above.

Thanks for the advanced, blunt critique shawn; I'm getting more and more used to it..

Shypii90 In reply to Redandwhite [2007-05-30 18:15:01 +0000 UTC]

ahh ok ghandek ragun i thought u wer right up against that wall! wid d zooming its completely different

+ sorry for d harshness, i must hav been in a bad mood... i love the colours and d time of day is just fantastic so prosit for capturing that! and yeah reflections at dawn and dusk are beautiful so well done for trying.

once again, sorry i seem so rude, but now im in a good mood so you don't hav to put up wid me as much
at least you have a tripod! i'm thinking of getting one but i dont feel it worthwhile to get one until i get dat new camera i'm yearning for (i'd need about 2 years to save up for such an expensive gadget though)

Redandwhite In reply to Shypii90 [2007-05-30 20:39:07 +0000 UTC]

You need a tripod... you can get a pretty good one for
2years?!? As if Shawn.

I got my kit all planned out. Altogether costing Lm462. The D40 with 18-55 costs lm262, so i can get it this summer, and the 70-300 VR costs lm200 so thats later down the line.. Both lenses WILL AF

How's that for value? Aim for that if you can...

insomma ta at lara's dinner i hand-held a foto at half a second and it came pretty good! even i was impressed. but a tripod isnt necessary for my camera because the max. it exposes is 2 seconds and dat's nothing if i want night shots witout noise.

yeah 2 years because i'm saving up for so many other things before (check my journal entry that i'm about to write on dA)... and an Lm800 camera is no joke! So i'll get it from abroad!

As for your kit.. i should hope that you can appreciate the cost and value of it and that you'll take better care of it than your previous endeavour

cheers

Lemme guess... Nikon F mount camera.

S5 Pro with an Ultra-Wide Zoom (Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 I'm guessing, or else Nikkor 12-24 f4), then a midrange zoom (maybe the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8?) and a decent long zoom (Nikkor 70-200 f2.8?) Oh wait, you're over budget here by about Lm1200 with this pro combo!
