Description My rendition of an illustration by Frederic Dorr Steele for the story The Adventure of The Second Stain, from The Return of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

I don't find the original illustration online, but I know it's from the American edition of The Return of Sherlock Holmes.

This is wonderful; your talent is truly enviable. The stark contrast between white and black is highly effective.

Also, Reichenbach-usernames-hi-five.

The moment I saw this I recognised them as Watson and Holmes. Nicely done and I like your style of drawing.

Totally cool! A worthy tribute to a great illustrator. Sidney Paget was always my favorite Holmes illustrator, but Steele was pretty awesome too.

Thanks! Sidney Paget is also my favourite Holmes illustrator, after all he defined Holmes' appearance(and I'm planning on doing a tribute to him soon), but I think Steele's style is very unique and it gives the stories a great atmosphere (for example the famous illustration for The Lion's Mane) ^^

I never knew there were so many Sherlock Holmes fans around here

Haha, yeah. I didn't either until I joined deviantART. But apparently we're everywhere, and have been for over a hundred years!

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your tribute to Paget. One of my drawings is based on a sketch of his, too. He was brilliant.

Very cool. :+faves:

Steele was never really my favourite Sherlockian artist, but his works are still interesting, and it's nice to see people mentioning his work.

Thanks for the fave! ^^
Well, as is it for most people, my favourite Holmes illustrator was Sidney Paget, but I think Steele has a very interesting style, and as you say, he's not the most remembered, but still worth a tribute
