Description DISCLAIMER: THIS COMIC HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH AXIS POWERS HETALIA. Just making sure I put that out there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is very very true, and very very disheartening,
These are actual [summarized] responses I got from people when I told them some languages I'd be interested in learning and countries I'd like to visit/study abroad in. No the studying abroad thing does not apply to all of them and these are just dreams of mine. They probably won't come true anyways...
Seriously. Whenever most people ask me these questions anymore, I just say Spanish and England. Why? Because I'm already learning Spanish. [I live in Texas.] And I really really do love England and I have family there. Wales in particular.
The only reason I didn't include French or German, or visiting England or those countries is because I got the normal reaction of, "Oh that's cool."
Break it Down~ o3o
Japanese- I really do love Japanese culture. And I am NOT a weeaboo.
Swedish/Sweden and Finnish/Finland [and the rest of the Nordics really] Recently, these countries have begin to really really fascinate me and I'm falling quite in love with their culture. And I like the way these languages sound. Don't know why, just do. I think I might have my lovely visp-teaching Dansh-exchange student freind to blame for the spark that ignited this. XD
Polish/Lithuanian/Latvian - Once again, culture. And I really love reading about the history of these countries, it's really interesting.
Welsh - I'm Welsh and proud. 'nuff said.
Russian - Seriously!? Can we please get over the coldwar thing already!? Anyways, Culture, History and written language. I love the way it looks!
can we talk about how my cousin went to live in Ireland for 6 months and all the relatives thought that was so cool but then here I am over here *admittedly* obsessed with Ukraine and all anyone can say is "There's a war over there, right?"
Patronizing people like that are the scum of the earth. A bunch of horrible dickheads, I say. Do what you want. Fuck "society"!
I agree with the guy below. There's nothing wrong with enjoying Japanese things.
I do admit, for all my weaboo bashing, it's kinda disappointing that it seems like people can't learn Japanese without invoking a "weaboo" stigma. Like "Oh you're one of THOSE people are you?"
I know exactly how you feel. Coming from a small Texan school where, unfortunately, we had a LOT of the stereotypical red necks, any interest I had in foreign cultures and what not was often seen as weird and potentially mocked.
I know that feeling... It's happened to me too ;-;
I live in Texas as well and even though I have nothing against Spanish culture, it just doesn't interest me. At all... so I have no real interest in learning it...
Learn 'em anyway and fuck the naysayers. I'd love to learn them myself, but I have discovered through depressing experience that I truly suck at learning other languages. If you can do it, go for it, and don't let those idiots stop you.
Makes me kinda sad. We've got a similar problem in the Philippines...
Once upon a time, there were maybe hundreds of different dialects in the country, usually two to five per island. But thanks to the spread of American culture, dialects disappeared. Kids were less interested in their native heritage, and more interested in English. Not that I can blame them. It IS becoming used more often...
But still...I recently saw a dictionary for one of the native dialects. It had words I'd never heard of in regular old Tagalog. Made me feel sad to know that cultures can be swept away so quickly.
Ok, long post is long. But I just wanna finish with, "The only reason I wanna learn Japanese is because my uncle lives there, and I wanna be able to visit him and get around without badgering him about what signs say. Valid excuse."
Hi, I know, I'm from Philippines and I speak 3 languages in our country namely Cebuano, Tagalog and English. I live in the southern part of our country Mindanao and we still have the original 18 tribes and there are still cultures that aren't swept away so quickly. Sure, we got modernized but we still can't forget where we came from because it's already in our blood whether you have no idea or not. Anyway, the cultures aren't really swept away quickly yet. In Luzon, especially in Manila you may think cultures are gone but actually it isn't.
Since we have 100+ of languages in our country, we should be happy that most people can use English so that we can communicate well with each other.  So, don't be sad okay
I also speak Swedish, Hungarian and Japanese a little bit. People around me are bullying me for being such a weirdo, weaboo, nerd and etc but I didn't mind them. Learning new and other languages are fun actually and I am proud of being one. Just don't mind those people accusing you. It's your life, make your own choices. Stop listening to others. They're just jealous because you can speak a lot of languages than them
Haha, I get the same reactions, but I stick to what I want. Don't let others push you around. If it's something YOU want to do, then GO FOR IT! I mean, where would the Greats be if they let themselves get pushed around by someone else's opinion, you know? If you love all those cultures/languages, and you learn about them, who knows -- you might get a job for TIME or NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC... you might be on the TRAVEL channel!
Cute little comic, though.
Thanks for that.
Yeah, it's not that I'm no longer going to persue any of those, I definantly am, I just stop telling them to people I know are not going to be open-minded about it...
No problem. I just hate when I see that someone is being discouraged from... well, anything really.
Eeh, so what? It's their fault that they just can't accept a wide variety of things. They're the ones missing out!
