Description "I beg at your Palace gates, grant me a reprieve! Have I not become all you have wanted? Are my debts not paid in full?''
How long must I hope for a rescue that will never come? He becomes a god, while I rot and suffer. Release me so that I may have my revenge!"

That note was from Deimos? I thought it was the Barbarian King.

It could be from either one. If Deimos DID write the note, it means he still may have some anger towards Kratos, and could, once again, want vengeance against his brother. This is probably not true, because Deimos forgave Kratos before attacking Thanatos together.

Thanks! I just wanted him to look good. He’s one of my favorite characters in GOD OF WAR. Too bad he died; I felt sad for Kratos. All for nothing…

Yeah. Apparently, his name means 'terror' and he was one of the minor god sons of Ares in the original Greek myths.

Rick Riordan's interpretation of him is quite the arrogant jerk, even towards his own demigod sister, not unlike his father. Hmm... I wonder if he's heard of GOW, or if he's foolishly brought it before his father. I sense the Harley rampage of a lifetime!

I was like "What has Thanatos done to you?!" when he said that. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't willing to forgive Kratos for not coming after him immediately and having his hopes crushed while he was waiting.

Now what makes me wonder is why Thanatos did not just send Deimos to Hades instead of keeping him alive

AnaxErik4ever In reply to Dudemon [2011-11-07 16:45:31 +0000 UTC]

I mean, Deimos got killed in the end anyway. Why not just kill him off during his time in the Domain of Death and get the job done quicker? Did the creators do that in the plot line to twist the proverbial knife further into Kratos' wounded heart, resulting in more god-related enmity?

My theory is that Thanatos did kill Deimos. But much like his brother, he somehow could find a way out of hell and had had a little adventure to find Kratos before Thanatos captured him again. His armor and his ripped body could be proofs that he had escaped from Thanatos' clutches at least once. Then assuming that Thanatos was careful and competent enough in keeping his prisoner from escaping, it is possible that Deimos died in his torture, perhaps shortly after he had given up his faith on Kratos. Now you may wonder why Thanatos killed Deimos again if such things are true. I think it is because that Thanatos knew Zeus made some kind of a deal with the Sisters of Fate or maybe the Fates chose to support Olympus' prosperity. That means he believed that no matter what happened, all who opposed Olympus would perish because the Fates said so, ultimately rendering the prophecy of the Marked Warrior to be invalid. Again, it is just my theory.

Hmm... you have a point. Each and every GOW game, canon and "in between" alike, has a descent into the proverbial underworld at some point or other. It is very possible that Deimos could claw his way back into a future adventure; Kratos has done it multiple times. The classic Oedipus device: wanting to prevent your horrible fate by doing something you think will remedy it, but not being able to prevent it in the end. I, personally, don't believe in that, but it's big in the Greek myths, especially the whole "Fates foretelling the Fall of the Titans/Gods" thing. When Kratos killed the Fates in GOW II, he took control of his own destiny, which I highly approve of. I like Kratos, terse and tortured though he may be, up until the end of GOW II; when he killed Athena, he went too far. I don't care if it was an accident! You just DON'T kill my favorite Greek Goddess!

Dudemon In reply to AnaxErik4ever [2011-11-08 04:44:14 +0000 UTC]

It is more than possible actually. As we all know at the end of GOW3, all souls broke free from hell. One of them was most likely Deimos. Furthermore, although Kratos could finally have his revenge in the end, but his death at the end of his journey was still inevitable as he killed himself not long after he had killed Zeus. I do not personally agree of the whole Oedipus device either. I was only saying that such a thing still exists in GOW story.
As for Athena, you did know that she did not actually die, right? Though corrupted, she had achieved a higher form because of her death. The reason that other Greek gods and goddesses do not share the same fate as Athena is still unknown until now. However in my opinion, the "ghost" Athena is not actually Athena herself. I assume that it is one of the evils which was accidentally freed from Pandora's Box by Kratos in GOW1. It is most likely "Greed", as Athena became obsessed to gain the power of Hope and rule the world. The "Greed" took shape of its victim when the victim died, just like how the "Fear" took Zeus' shape after his son had stabbed him with the Blade of Olympus.

AnaxErik4ever In reply to Dudemon [2011-11-08 13:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... that "Greed" theory would be a valid explanation. I didn't really believe that spirit was Athena either; she seemed way too helpful, never mind suspicious. The real Athena looked after Kratos, in her own way, as well as Olympus, but like all gods can't play favorites too often, she didn't help him too much. Plus, even though Kratos hated her a little for using him to do the gods' bidding before he became a god, and then not taking his visions away, I think he still liked her enough to be horrified when she stepped in to take the fall for Zeus at the end of GOW II. Personally, Zeus is a bloody coward for letting his immortal child die like that. *still doesn't understand why Poseidon, her favorite major god and her Olympian father (Percy Jackson tangent!), had to be killed first, thereby making him the weakest of all the bosses in GOW III; since he's one of the "Big 3", he should've been a more formidable foe, like Hades was and Zeus of course*
P.S. So... since there's going to be a fourth game, you think Deimos is going to be the hero, or is our favorite blood-thirsty Spartan coming back for one last hurrah? I'd love if they brought Deimos back, if only for a boss battle. Hmm... you think Deimos and Kratos are literal brothers, or is Deimos an ordinary mortal Spartan? Either way, he's still awesome.
