There was a chill in the air – fall was finally here. It was Sura’s favorite time of the year. She loved walking outside into the crisp air, watching the brilliant leaves of the deciduous trees turn to vibrant shades of yellow, reds and oranges, and watching a morning mist burn off the landscape to reveal a beautiful fall afternoon. It meant that she could begin layering up in her favorite fur-lined clothes, and run her fingers through Asha’s thick winter coat. And of course, it meant that the fall holidays had finally arrived – she loved Halloween, Thanksgiving, and most especially Christmas.
Halloween was almost upon them, and Sura had spent the morning putting her finishing touches on her Tokoween Costume. There was still plenty to do to finish preparing Asha’s part of the coordinated outfit, but there would be more time for that later. Sura needed to get up and stretch her legs, and knew that Asha would probably appreciate some exercise. So she set her sewing aside, grabbed some of Asha’s favorite treats, and headed outside so they could both blow off a little steam.
The weather outside was perfect. The sun was shining brightly across the treetops – illuminating the brilliantly colored leaves. She climbed on Asha’s back and nudged her forward. Sura did not have a particular destination in mind. She just wanted to be outside and she knew that Asha would appreciate the freedom to run around for a bit. Asha responded to Sura’s light touch, and before Sura knew it, they were speeding past the autumn trees and across the hillside.

After some time, they came across some of the town folk that were loading a cart full of pumpkins.
“We really got to get this load down the hill tonight,” she heard one of them say, “or I’m afraid the ravens will have picked through all the good ones before they reach the Tokoween festivities.”
Sura encouraged Asha to approach slowly, and then she dismounted near the group of workers. She spoke with them briefly, and learned that they were collecting the last of this crop’s pumpkins for the big upcoming celebration. But the farmers were concerned that a flock of local ravens, who had been spotted lurking near the edges of the field, would cause some serious destruction if the cart was not delivered to the town before nightfall. The only problem was that they had just sent their last team of riders and cart pullers to town, and were in need of another Tokota to deliver the last wagon load.
“I would love to help you deliver these pumpkins for the celebration,” Sura said with a smile. She had been working on training Asha to pull a cart, and they had been very diligent in their groundwork maneuvers. This would be the perfect opportunity to help Asha reach the next level in her training, while expending some energy on a gorgeous day, and all while helping contribute to the Tokoween Celebration.

A short while later, Sura had Asha fitted with the pulling harness and was ready to deliver the pumpkins. The farmer informed her to be cautious – and notified her that the hillside could be treacherous in spots, with loose dirt and gravel. He also warned her about the ravens, letting her know that they were more than likely to attempt some sort of pumpkin feast on the ride down the hill. Sura added a couple of tall branches to back of the wagon, so that she could fend off the pesky birds if they became a real problem. She knew, if it came down to it, all she would have to do was unhitch Asha briefly, and her beloved pale grey Toko would be more than happy to chase them off. But that would also slow the delivery, not to mention it could be risky if the footing was unstable, so she had her back up plan of branches – and a torch she could light quickly if needed.
And then, with all of the preparations double checked, Sura called out to Asha and they began their journey to deliver the pumpkins…
