After training for the last month, the day had finally come – the FOYS Team Mounted Games was underway and Madison couldn't be more excited. She had been assigned to the Red Team, which included a variety of Faime horses ranging from drafts to mini's. The group had made a concerted effort to start training early, getting their horses accustomed to one another and trying to work out the best strategy for their varied members. Taking into account the needs of their diverse group, they set their sights on a balloon race through a water course, that would help diminish the height discrepancy between their teammates.
Training together in the water had been a blast, and Madi smiled recalling how Tempy loved to charge headlong into the water, spraying glistening droplets everywhere as she splashed towards the opposite shore. The course was set over a shallow stream, with soft sand and a gentle current and was easy enough to maneuver through. The team had acquired matching tack, in red of course, with sealed leather that could withstand getting wet. To further set the mood, for the Spring-Into-Summer Theme, they had all decided to wear red swimwear and matching red helmets. Madi had donned a pair of thick, nude-colored tights under her swimsuit, to prevent her legs from chaffing against the saddle, and for comfort inside her riding boots.
As the Red Team prepared for the start of the event, Madi looked over and shared a smile with Tiyger. Both of them were positioned downstream, so the tallest horses would be the ones running against the current, and ready to tag off with their counterparts on the other side. Madi gathered the reigns, settled into her seat, and ensured her grip on the balloon-popping pole in her right hand. Tempy danced beneath her, ready to dash forward into the creek after all of their practice at this game. Mara looked across the shore to spot Smokey and Mara, whom she would be tagging off with, and then focused on the red balloons directly in front of her.
She and Tempy would be setting the pace for the game, running the first leg of the heat, and she wanted to make sure that they were quick, but also efficient and popped the balloon on their first try. Madi knew Tempy would have no problems running through the clear stream, so it was up to her to make sure they didn't miss the bobbing balloon tethered to the flagged pole. She focused, feeling Tempy's every movement beneath her, as she concentrated on the task at hand… and with the signal to begin the race, they were off – charging straight for the balloons and right on task. Tempy and Mara were both having so much fun!

Ah... thank you so much! I love your comments... I just can't even tell you.
I was torn at first, putting boots on Tempy, because that "floofy-footed" look is so characteristic of the draft faimes, but then I thought that if I had the feathers coming out noticeably at the bottom, it'd sorta all work itself out. And thank you - I was glad that I got put on a team where the color does look quite stunning against her hide/coat. Although, I'm not sure that any color wouldn't look great against her pretty chocolate coat (I think she makes it kinda easy for me).
I finally went ahead and made 2 stables... so AA can still focus on realistic, purebred Arabians (where Keira, Ciara and Bear all are) and then my "other" AVS stable, that has just about anything and everything (including a ton of fantasy creatures now). It's just supposed to be secondary to AA, but that is the one where I just threw all my restraint out the window and went crazy collecting pixel ponies (and Shedu's and Hippogriffs *shakes head in shame... but loves them all anyways*). Back over at AA I've sorta gotten things "frozen" in time there (when things got bad with RL Keira, I just couldn't bring myself to draw HARPG Keira either... so I let everything just stay as it is... but hoping to get some more art of them done again, too).
And thank you... that background took me forever. I must have had like 3 different windows open - with 20 tabs each - trying to get a feel for meadow foliage, beaches, and water surfaces (and how they all come together). That'll teach me not to create something in my mind (instead of using just one ref picture) and try to make it come to life. The river 'sliced' viewpoint was something I knew I wanted as soon as I found my horse's ref image... but had no freaking idea how to replicate. I'm still not happy with a lot of it, but to hear you compliment it really means a lot to me - THANK YOU! I guess this is one of those times where pushing oneself outside of comfortable boundaries (not that backgrounds are ever comfortable for me) and trying something new can result in a happy surprise. Who knew?
And thank you, I'm glad you liked my little snippet of a story. I know it's not the most elaborately written thing, but my team has spent so much time behind the scenes discussing how we wanted to make this all work out, it just felt wrong not to include those details some how... and what better than throwing a little bit of the "setting" into the story.
Thank you again... for all of that awesome comment!
