Description Took the morning off of chores and errands, and drove my princess Keira to the beach. It started dark and stormy (typical weather) and then cleared to a gorgeous blue sky. We had the beach to ourselves entirely - she got to play and "spaz" to her heart's content. And now I have one very happy (and exhausted) dog.

Lovely Keira!
These pictures make me smile; she is so adorable and happy looking there!
It really shows that she enjoys running around on the beach.
The beach looks like a gorgeous place - I wish I had such place nearby!

I am very grateful to have this location so close to my home (a very short driving distance). And I think Keira is too.

She was so happy to be playing there. I love being there, watching her play and enjoy herself... and the fact that the two of use had the entire beach to ourselves (enjoying just each other's company) was amazing.

Thanks so much for the hun.

She's really just gorgeous and she look so happy here; I love that you can just see how much she loves the beach

I totally adore that picture of her in the surf on the bottom, far right, too. That's such a lovely expression and she looks so fluffy and white

She was so happy today. It made me smile, knowing that I could give her this opportunity to play on the beach, while she's having a "good" day.

And playing in the surf, that is her fav thing to do. She's not a swimmer at all, but she loves to splash in the water and get her legs wet. She prances like a princess (albeit less gracefully than she did before her accident last year). Sad thing is, by the time we left the beach, all that pretty white was covered in dark sand... LOL, cleaning time for me!

That does sound really great. I wish I was close enough to the coast to do spontaneous trips to the beach XD - but this seems perfect for you guys. If you're close enough, and you both love it, just some good sea air and play in the surf is great for keeping spirits up and as I said, you can really see how happy she looks . And after my crazy day, its good to hear Keira was having a good one ^^

Haha - sadly sand does get everywhere! and it sounds the same as my cousin's dog - he's a border collie and when we last took him to the beach he loved running in the surf, but when the tide started to come in, he took one look at the curling waves and bolted for the dry sand . Have you actually tried taking Keira to dog water therapy or anything like that? Sorry - its late and I can't remember the specifics of her accident, or if you did tell me - but even if she's not keen on swimming in the sea, a still pool is a different thing and just being able to paddle without worrying about her bodyweight may help? (there are any number of reasons you may not want that, but I thought I might mention it).

Luckily, the beach is a very close drive for us. So I don't have to go very long between visits to the water. Of coarse, that means the sand can be a frequent "visitor" in my house too. Ah well, keeps my vacuum from gathering dust.

I looked into water therapy for Keira (and what could have been a wonderful recovery tool for her), but it was just too expensive for me. Instead, I just did very diligent Physical therapy range-of-motion exercises with her for months, and then take her to the beach as frequently as I am able to.

Haha, there are upsides and downsides to everything It would be nice to live so close to a beach - riding through the surf as well as fun with the dogs

And that is the sad truth of it. People charge the earth for water therapies But as you can prove; its not always how much money you shell out that gets a pet through something, but how much dedication you have as an owner, and how much will they have to come back from something difficult

LOL, don't be too envious. I should put in a disclaimer that she has recovered from a spinal cord injury, and walks a little "gimp-like" with her back legs. So after approx 2 minutes of playing, she is completely exhausted and uncoordinated, and just slowly walks with me (splashing in the water) and we stroll down the beach like a pair of old ladies.

Oh, the poor dear! I cannot see a lick of pain in these pictures, what a tough ol girl she is

Oh, she's not in pain (I would never rehab a dog if she wasn't going to have a good quality of life). She just walks like her back two legs are drunk all the time... it's almost comical to watch, if she wasn't my little baby. But although she is "gimpy," she is happy and pain free... which is all that matters to me really.

LOL, you know her to well. She did have her little spaz moment on the beach, before she mellowed out and played splashing in the water's edge. Such a little goober she is.

she looks so precious, what kind of dog is she?

She is an Alaskan Malamute, with some presumed Collie mix in there as well. And I definitely think she's precious.
