Description
This is my version of Ancient Egypt's leading deity, Ra. I've loved Ancient Egypt since my childhood, and here is one of my tributes to it. I used the pose from an Alex Ross Superman sketch and improvised the rest. Since Superman is regarded as a sun god in his own right, it seemed appropriate.

The story that really has me respecting Ra is the incident with Sekmet, a bloodthirsty lioness. Ra's evil brother, Apep, was turning humanity away from him, and Ra unleashed Sekmet as punishment on the humans. However, she started killing too many, and Ra stopped her by turning her into the love goddess, Hathor. So basically, Ra made a big mess, and took responsibility and cleaned it up himself.
