Description What do you know? I say I'm gonna post art more frequently by working on it far more than I have, and here I am to prove that I actually can uphold a promise.
U proud of me?
I proud of me!

Anyways, this piece I started last year and only started with Talions Blue Cape, and a rough outline for the other four Orcs/Ologs. After starting it on the 26, and working on it for the next 9 to 11 days, I come with another piece of work from yours truly. The reason it took so long was that I am still rather new to this artstyle. Avoiding the comfortable style of hard black ink for outlines and details leads to a lot of doubt, caution and overall second guessing, THAT and doing the shading and multiple coloring does take more time.
HOWEVER, I can safely say that I am proud of my work. Far from perfect I'm sure, but I feel I did a good, just job here in paying my tribute to Shadow of War- A game I love to death... the many deaths of Talion of course.
And I know, this game's old... but come on, I still love it so let me be happy! >

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Okay, so here's the part where I save you from reading my essay on what's happening, and instead say:
Thank you very much for viewing my artwork. If you liked it and want to see more of it, please do support the artist!
The best way to do this of course is to favorite the art piece, give me a comment (or Critique if you have the time) telling me what you think about it and if you have any advice, and add me to your deviant watch so that you can always see what I come up with next! Also visit my gallery for more (albeit older) content.
I don't have any other social media (Cept Instagram but it's not even really doing anything at the moment...) but if you stick around, that'll change soon.
*hint hint*

STORY TIME
Shadow of War is a game based off of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series where you play as Talion- a Ranger of Gondor who is murdered along his wife and son during a blood ritual and is bound to the spirit of an Elvish Blacksmith who forged the original rings of power and betrayed by Sauron. After mastering your powers, your goal is to amass a massive army to use against Sauron himself and to conquer the territory of Mordor so that you can finally defeat the Dark Lord. But who's going to be made of your army? ORCS.
Using the power of the Bright Lord, you dominate the minds of his Orc Warriors and bend them to serve the Bright Lord rather than the Dark Lord. However, your Uruk's have free will still, and some will choose to betray you or protect you during your struggle against the Dark Lord. More importantly though, Nothing Will be Forgotten as your actions have a permanent affect against the Orcs you meet, with each Orc being unique compared to other Orcs other players meet thanks to the Unique Nemesis System.

With this in mind, this piece represents one of my own experiences. Being in the End Game and generally just playing for the fun of it, Four of my Orc Captains initiated a Rebellion on me- a event in which multiple Orcs betray you at once. From left to right, the Orc traitors are:
Grom the Harrow
Ar-Baruk Hammer Fist
Ur-Edin the Judge
Luga the Mystic
During this rebellion, I was kept on my toes the whole time as with the exception of Grom and Luga, these captains were exceptionally strong thanks to me leveling them up... thanks boys. Despite the odds being very much against me, I was able to survive, one by one breaking and dealing with the different traitors. Grom was the first to break, and because I loved his unique character aesthetic- Dark Mask, Terror Chest, Two Pauldrons, Zog's Gauntlets, Dress Pants, Marauder Crossbows, Black Blade- I tried to force him back into my army. But he developed Iron Will and refused, so I shamed him. This had the adverse effect of deranging him, causing him to from now on scream out "THIS IS SUFFERING!!!"
Ur-Edin was next, I liked him and spent the past hours getting him strong. Despite this, I still tried to recruit him. And impressively, he decided to join back without a fuss.
Luga was next. Despite him opening up the rebellion with "You never noticed me before, so this for casting me low!", he too joined back without a fuss. Ar-Baruk however also had Iron Will, so I shamed him and recruited him later. After this though, I demanded him to prove himself to me by having him fight a captain that was higher level than him. He did that as well as kill three other captains that exceeded his level and killed a Graug. Suffice to say, he's proven his worthiness to me.

After thinking about it, I think that it was Grom and Ar-Baruk who initiated the rebellion and just bullied Luga and Ur-Edin into following them. I extrapulate this because Grom and Ar-Baruk had Iron Will, so they must have CHOSEN to betray me. But Luga and Ur-Edin didn't and happily joined back, giving me the impression that their lines for betrayal were them trying to justify it when in reality, they were just being bullied into following... not uncommon for Orcs.

That's why I love this game. You get to have your own stories.

By the gods, this has got to be the biggest, most detailed and thoroughly detailed Critique I have ever seen let alone received. I am humbled and honored by the sheer level of detail you have put into writing this.

In response to your points:
You are not the only one who is very uncertain about the white background, I struggled a LOT to decide if it was best to leave it as it is or make something in the background. Initially, I wanted to make the background of Gorgoroth (the location I was in during this Rebellion), but then I realized that if I did that, the colors would be so dark that it would blend in too well with things like Ar-Baruk's Mace, Grom's armor, Luga's robes and Ur Edin's feathers. Ultimately I decided to leave it as is, but I can't help but feel that it does feel very incomplete.

And this indecisiveness of the light is what I think led to my suffering with portraying the light. With the original idea for the background, I planned a source of light being at the right of the page and the left being darker. But without actually doing that, I lost track of where certain light would funnel in and I can see how it makes the lighting look all over the place.
Oh yeah, and Ur-Edin's arm was a mess for me just because it's so tightly packed next to Ar-Baruk's left arm. If I had more space on paper, I could probably have avoided that. Next time, I'll be more careful in planning.
I do confess that Shadowing and Lighting is an aspect I need more practice on, but I am glad to hear that you at least believe I have potential. Worry not, for I am always looking to improve, and your advice is very useful to me. I will not waste the input.
Also as for the realism aspect, I know that my art style doesn't represent realism that well, but that's all my fault for still learning. Truth is, I want my work to look more realistic in time. And that is why I am so eager for real constructive advice such as yours.

If I'm being honest, I had no planning of using basic shapes to differentiate space. No thought of triangles, squares or rectangles. I just drew poses that I thought seemed appropriate.
As for faces... eeeeeeeeeh, truth be told, I'm most comfortable with helmets and masks more than faces. I definitely made Ar-Baruk's head too round and didn't define his features that well, and Ur-Edin I feel has too round of a cheeks even for someone with a open mouth expression. But to pat myself on the back a little, I feel I gave Luga a just representation of his actual face.

I can't argue against the originality of the pose. The smaller warrior figure verses the larger more imposing enemies is a cliche. But on the other hand, I have decided that I'm going to start being more dynamic with my poses to make my art stand out more. Give a sense of energy and really twist the body to show off the 3D shape better than I have before.
Also, about Ur-Edin's chest, I chalk up the difficulty in clarity being mainly that his weapon is blocking his (admittedly) complex chest armor design. He's got a very detailed Destroyer Chest Plate and a Bandoleer of Explosives on top of his painted Balrog Icon. If his hammer wasn't in the way, you probably could have seen that better. Alas, another point of detailing and planning I shall work on.

Finally, all I wish to say to you is: Thank You.
The outrageous amount of time you put into this critique has truly made me smile and gives me a lot of encouragement to continue my work for the greater goals. With your detailed advice, I will strive to make my next works even better in terms of color, proportions, light, shadowing and the layout. And I hope you will be there to see them when they are complete, and if you feel they deserve it, share your insight.

Again, thank you immensely.

Ironic that they all sound British with the exception of Kumail Nanjianji Orc.

Still, word of advice for any rebels, don't rebel against the undying orc slaying Bright Lord. It can't go well for you in the long run.

Yeah some do, but most some a bit American, but yeah, while I haven't remember all my stories during my second run, I did remember a few, like a orc after taking him down after a betrayal, becoming a wraith.

Yeah, but it's too bad these orcs are so dumb, in terms of battle plans, but at least they died what they loved.

Rexlare In reply to Drawbot908 [2019-07-21 22:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, you just reminded me.
Throughout my entire playthrough, of 100+ hours, I only ever got one wraith Orc... and he was still a poorly dressed, always retreating, easy to use punching bag as he was before hand.
Same with my first stitched Olog. He had a fear of executions, so he too was the easiest punching bag ever. Literally came back from death once just to die again.

Yeah, all my cool resurrected orcs are all pretty unworthy of cheating death.

1. Im sorry to hear that, not every orc is the same.

2. Yeah, but I can't resurrect friendly orcs or Agonizer orcs, because they're just shells of their funny selves.

It's both a great thing, and a curse.

The curse of being a necromancer. You have the power to bring friends back, but they're hardly your friends no more.

One by both hands.
Arm crossbows are a fun gimmick, but their draw weight is pathetic and is hardly even worth small game.

That said, I do love the Marauders pistol crossbows. I'd love to make one some day, but they've got some pretty impossible mechanics to them.

They can shoot four bolts in very rapid succession, the arms spring out and then collapse back in when needed, and they can do some damage.

The nemesis system is one of the most interesting systems I've seen in a game before. It takes the idea of NPC interactions without scripts to a whole new level. My only gripe would be that it feels they needed more time and money to add more to certain personalities or names.

Thank you very much. Been thinking about resubmitting this piece with a background color.

LE GASP
You watch Tearofgrace?!
That is a very big yes. Prak Jaws is the number one Uruk of Mordor. Terrifying, immortal and far more calculating than anyone gives credit for.

My only regret is that Tear didn't play SoW on PC, meaning we never got Prak back... even though we somehow got Ukrom? Yeah, explain that one to me please. Ah well, I guess it's better Ukrom became the machine and not Prak.

That said though, someone did mod in Brett's entire cast of orcs from the first game into SoW. Prak was a Feral tribal... fitting.

I hope he does do more video's. I kinda want him to do what he did with SoM and make a big series out of it.
I loved the moments when he met the Death Bone Uruk and after he shamed the Brown into being the higher pitch Prak Jaws wannabe.

Thankfully I have no such experience.
All of my saviors have been top notch followers.

My favorite example is one time I found a legendary Olog who then ambushed me because I revealed intel on him. He was about to kill me because I ran out of second chances, and then my Orc who was my follower from the first game charged in out of nowhere and executed the Olog just because.

He wasn't even my bodyguard or really in any position to actually do this, but he did it anyways.
