Description I met Earl at the annual Fiddlers' Picnic I went to on Saturday. I had never seen this kind of instrument before, so I asked him what it was. He told me it was a dulcimer, which I had seen before, but this was a special kind... I think he called it a mountain dulcimer, but my memory fails me. Anyway, he was an awesome guy. The end.

I actually have a dulcimer. my uncle gave it to me for Xmas one year. It's in a closet somewhere. I never learned to play it.

Nice shot....another great one.

You know that my english is quite poor. Being a star does it mean that the information takes a very long time to travel through your brain?
Sorry if i misunderstood...

By the way, did you receive DA's shipment?

rhapsouldize In reply to FerdydurkeZabelin [2007-08-15 15:40:12 +0000 UTC]

hehe, sorry. i was being sarcastic when i called myself a star. your english is far from poor, by the way.

and no, i didn't receive the shipment yet. also, another print i ordered got lost in the mail i guess, and i never got it. so i emailed dA, and they said they weren't responsible. so i'm just out $14 now.

You've done well at catching the relationship between a craftsman and his tool. To me this is a special subject in our age of mechanization and computerization. BTW, it is a mountain dulcimer, which is a much different instrument from a hammered dulcimer.

Dusty Strings is an incredible place here in Seattle. You walk down a steep flight of stairs, open the door, and you're enveloped in instruments: harps, dulcimers, guitars, violins, pipes, bohrans. If you poke through their site, you'll find some pictures of the place. You can sit down and play a $2500 custom guitar or pluck a harp made on the premises. I'm not much of a musician, but I love the shapes of instruments, so the place is a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

that is so awesome. i've always wanted to visit seattle, but i'd have to take a lot of days off. maybe when i get a new job and a new set of vacation days...
i used to play the flute, from fourth grade until senior year of high school, but i stopped for some reason. i should pick it back up again. music is one of the most important things to me... i actually have "love" tattooed on my right foot and "music" tattooed on my left foot, so when you stand facing me and look at my feet, it says "love music"! hehe. those are my only tattoos... and probably the only ones i'll ever get. anyway, i digress...

Seattle is a great place to visit...for a week...in August. The rest of the year it's a drizzly, grey traffic jam...but I'm not bitter. Mark Twain said that the best winter he ever spent was a summer in Seattle...he knew what he was talking about...but I'm not bitter. On the other hand, with your love for people on the fringes, you might really enjoy it...for a week...in August! :chuckle:

Your tattoos crack me up! You should do a self-portrait of just your feet and the tattoos. 'Twould be truly unique!

Cheers
Dan
