Description I've lost track of the number of these Early Days pieces I've submitted,
but that's not important. This piece I hesitate to submit, only because it is SOOOOO
traditional. And it was rejected by a juror in a W/C show in 1995 (when it was done)
because of its Poor Composition. But, at the very least, it's historical, showing
(copying faithfully, by me) the nature of the fishing boats on Lake Superior around
1900, maybe even before. The trout were thrown in the bilge of the ship (see the large
door on the left-hand ship) and could be easily removed in great numbers. These vessels
rot away in ship graveyeards, in and around Bayfield, Wisconsin. In this case a few
sailors are keeping them clean and restored. rcg

I really love language(s) and I
remember listening ~at times ~ to my
mom's mom speak Swedish. I can get by in
German, but Swedish...it's tough!

traditional, copy-the-photo watercolors, really catch

Because they are carefuly done, it is easy to do so called modern art, but to set up beautiful scene like this need more skills. In era of photoshop it is nice and fresh to see something diferent.

I oftentimes think (or thought) that the one great mistake
made by 'Show officials' is that there is only ONE JUROR and
(really a mistake) ONLY ONE JUDGE. A lot of favoritism is shown
in these shows, at least that's what I remember, especially if
an artist takes a workshop from a judge, his (more likely her)
piece is admitted/awarded. That's why I just don't enter stuff
any more. Anyway, I'm glad you like this submission. My traditional
w/c usually does much better...fine, whatever. AND THANKS AGAIN!!!
