I love how you manage to capture the peace and beauty in your work, wether it's a lush landscape, or an industrial city setting.

It's realistic - to me at least. These are the colours at a port. Subdued colours have their place and they work well here. It's for people who see the beauty of reality. Thanks.

I agree with the guy below, you always manage so many nice textures in your work.

I enjoy the textures, though I sometimes have to modify them a little so that they are not too dominant.

Wow, this is amazing. The textures you achieve are beautiful. The warm palette is so inviting. So often ocean pictures are cool paintings and give a feeling of melancholy. Your eye for detail is great. I'm always so curious about things, and this picture makes me want to know more about it.

This one works wonderfully well. Your skill with water in watercolor is most subtle.

I love this. Β It's rather serene and the sky is so faint it could be early morning, the beginning of an adventure Β
Did you draw this from life? Β I'm curious to know the place?

JohnPatience In reply to rae3604 [2015-06-13 06:53:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

I'm not one for sitting outdoors with my paints etc, that's much to uncomfortable in all sorts of ways.
I base my paintings on my photographs. The atmospherics are usually an invention so though it was morning it didn't look quite like this.

The place is Ile d'Oleron

Make a trip to Silesia one day

JohnPatience In reply to joannapasek [2015-06-13 12:13:01 +0000 UTC]

Silesia must be industrial I guess, truth is I'm more likely
to wait until I return to my roots in the North of England, they have or two there.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

joannapasek In reply to JohnPatience [2015-06-13 16:28:30 +0000 UTC]

Surely England has got enough of industrial landscapes, this is where it all started... If you'd like to have a look at Silesia (our industrial region, yes) with eyes of another painter, search for "Sanderus" here on DA.Β  He is one of my favourite watercolor artists.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JohnPatience In reply to joannapasek [2015-06-13 16:56:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes I already watch Sanderus and agree that he is excellent.

I wasn't thinking of treading in the footsteps of L.S.Lowry (I hope I've spelled his name correctly
I had in mind something a little more grim and grimy and I don't even know if I could do it.
I'm considering making a start with one of the grain silos we have here.

I couldn't afford to travel to Silesia though I'm sure that it has a lot to offer. Β
