Weapon : Judith utilizes a mortuary sword designed for either cutting into the opponent or thrusting / piercing the skin or armor. The two - edged sword dons a golden half - basket hilt with a straight silver blade ; its length being roughly about 98 cm. It is the same sword utilized by her own father during his period as Lord Rosa. That is the main reason she uses it for fighting but also because she prefers it to thinner, " civilian " swords that serve only one purpose. In its alternate form, it takes the appearance of a white and opera mauve colored parasol.

Judith's true personality is far less endearing, being more akin to a child than a noblewoman. From childhood, she's retained an avaricious need to have anything and everything. It's somewhat toned down now that she's assumed her current role but it is still ever present in moments where she comes across citizens with exceptionally fine jewelry or clothing. Her wonder of magic and tendency to want attention also add to this type of personality. Truthfully, Judith can also be somewhat violent and cruel when pushed too far.

History : The Valois family for years has been praised and loved for the flowers grown by the members of its family but none so more than the roses it cultivates. The family grew only the best and sold to people from every faction throughout Wonderland. They grew all and any types of roses especially the signature red rose. Each member of the family wore a rose insignia and a rose specially grown in the Valois garden upon their outfit, the color of it signifying their rank in the family.

Judith, upon being born, was designated with an opera mauve colored rose. Her parents as it so happened though held the pure white rose as the Lord and Lady of the family. The young girl experienced an easy life as she was both in the Faction of Hearts and born into one of the wealthier families of the aforementioned faction. Judith received everything she wanted with a mere snap of her fingers. Butlers attended to her daily while playing with the maids served as a pastime. She didn't converse much with children of other families but never seemed to mind, having more than enough toys and games to entertain herself. As she grew older though, it became evident of what her life had done to her. She had become spoiled. Spoiled rotten. When someone even hinted at anything other than accepting her request, she'd immediately attempt to get them fired from the household. If it was a family member, she'd purse her lips and not speak to them for seven days exactly. But even so, her parents didn't mind and continued to love their daughter unconditionally.

One day in her youth was special though. It was like any other day but a particular conversation had taken place. At the ripe age of sixteen, Judith had begun to grow curious about life. She'd thought she had everything she needed, everything she wanted, but it felt as if something was missing. Approaching her parents, she asked a very simple question.

" Do you feel like your life is complete ? "

With some hesitation at her odd question, they gave a simple answer.

" Yes. "

Their lack of an explanation annoyed her. How else was she supposed to feel happy ? So she spent the next few days observing her parents to find what made their life so complete. Was it this castle ? No, many people in the Heart faction had one if not everyone. Was it the riches ? Again no. Was it each other ? Perhaps but Judith could find no suitor that interested her enough to fancy. When she thought she'd given up hope on finding it, it suddenly revealed itself to her. It was their role. As the Lord Rosa and Lady Rosa, they were known for their roses even if they didn't grow them directly. They were wealthy but stood out amongst the other faceless members for their role. Certain that was the answer, Judith ventured to ask her parents another question.

" How do I get to have a role ? I want to be the head of the family, Lady Rosa ! "

" Haha. You can't have that title just yet. We're still alive. "

The answer to her was clear then. To obtain true happiness, they'd have to be killed. How else would she obtain a title ? Committing a crime would surely land her into Spades easily but being notorious for crimes wasn't want she wanted. Judith wished to be adored and loved. Her greed was slowly consuming her, herself and the others unaware of it corrupting the child. So in order to become head of her family, Judith waited. She waited and waited. And waited a bit more. Afterall, murder had to be done carefully or else she'd end up in jail with the ruffians. Not to mention the possibility of another usurping her position due to her age. One mistake and it would all be for naught. Years passed and at the age of twenty - one, now officially an adult and heir to the fortune, it was time to move the plan into motion.

As the day turned to night and servants & maids alike fell asleep, Judith slipped on a pair of pure white gloves and snuck into the bedroom of her parents. The image before her, of the white roses lining the floor, of her parents sleeping blissfully unaware of their daughter's intentions, almost coaxed her into not doing so. But she remembered her goal and reached for the thin sword that hung over their bed, a dear gift from the previous Lord and Lady Rosa before their unfortunate assassination. With a bitter laugh, she swung down the sword in a clean cut. Blood splattered across the area, onto her clothing, and even on her face. The roses that were once an innocent white had now been colored a brilliant crimson red. There was no screaming. There was no sound coming from the bodies before her at all. The night seemed eerily silent as Judith watched quietly as the bodies dissolved into a black form, only vaguely reminiscient of the former Valois Lord and Lady.

It didn't take long for her to register what happened before she reached for their clock-hearts. Carrying them to her room, she pulled out a music box she received from her parents as a child. She dropped them into the box and locked it with the intention to never open it again. The night seemed almost endless as she slaved away at removing the evidence of her deed. It was no crime but if anyone ever found out she'd murdered her own parents, her reputation would be ruined. For most, such a thing would be ' okay ' but for Judith, she had to appear pure and innocent to the unsuspecting public. The gloves were burned, the sword cleaned and placed back in its position, and a young woman put to bed with thoughts of nothing but her new life. The next morning had everyone in a frenzy. The Lord and Lady were missing, their clockhearts nowhere to be found, and absolutely no trace of who had done so. Weeks passed but the killer could not be found. It was assumed one of the assassins from Spades had done the couple in and that it would be best to move on. In this case, moving on included appointing a new head to the Valois family and who better than Judith Valois, the daughter of the missing parents ? At age 22, she had moved from faceless status to a woman with a role. Afterall, it didn't matter to her. The end justifies the means. She'd accomplished exactly what her parents had always wanted for her and that was for her to be happy. In her own twisted way, was she not doing them a favor and ridding them of their obligation to ? The fame, the glory, the riches. All of it would now go to Judith, or as she is now known, Lady Sub Rosa.

Additional Info : Due to staying in the Heart faction all her life, she rarely met any of the lower class members of Wonderland's society. Animal features still surprise her briefly but she takes great interest in those of the Clover faction who perform magic.

Judith keeps most of her hair tied back into a bun, resembling the design of a rose. She only takes it down when sleeping or bathing.

*Sub rosa is a latin phrase that in English means " under the rose ". This references to a tradition of putting a rose on a door of a private meeting. Her title then translates to ' Lady Under the Rose ', a woman who keeps her secrets.
