Description
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was born in iran in 1919. He ascended as king (shah) in 1941 when the Allies ousted his german-sympathetic father. He effectively reigned as a figurehead of a constitutional monarchy until the CIA backed coup d'etait replaced prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh with gen. Fazlollah Zahedi, thus significantly strengthening the prerogatives of the Shah.

During his reign he frequently aspires to be a "people's monarch" while simultaneously modernizing Iran through rapid reform. In the 1960:s he enacted various administrative and industrial reforms, while also enabling female suffrage in 1963.

He was overthrown during the Iranian revolution in 1979, thus ending Iran's 2500 year old monarchy. He died from cancer a few months later.
