Description

He had heard stories about the dragon lord, about the ruthless and merciless warlord from the North, who pillaged the lands, who left nothing behind but burned land, blood and death, and when he was ordered from his prison cell, he expected the warlord to be a man whose face told the stories of his brutality, a man with dead eyes and a cruel snarl on the lips who would not hesitate to cut his throat and bathe in his blood.

Instead, sitting there on the throne was a man with curiosity in his eyes, a handsome face littered with scars and hair greying despite his surprisingly young years, flanked by the two black drakes that famously accompanied his every step.

He had been left behind by a family that fled country and people the moment it had become apparent that the dragon lord would win the battle for the capitol, and now here he was, undoubtingly at the brink of his public execution, mocked and ridiculed even in death. But at least the fear, the pain and the humiliation would now never return.

And while he awaited the dragon lord to show his legendary cruelty, the man did something very unexpected.

He smiled.
