Description This one was made for a special occasion: when my cat died, I decide to say goodbye to him with this illustration: Bastet, the feline egiptian goddes...may she take care of my Isidoro...

I also posted it in MGC than, [link] but I asked the stuff not to make it for vote, because it wasn't correct.

You know what I like about this? You didn't call her a "Gargoyle". The Egyptian gods, as all other gods, are Children of Oberon. Many people don't get that...

I know. XD But I'm pretty sure she doesn't have wings in the stories. And she does look a lot like what I'd expect one to look like. Either way this pic rocks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 00:10:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, wings don't automatically make a Gargoyle... I never expected Egyptian Gargs to look like that since I know the difference between Gargoyles and the Third Race. Anubis is also a "god" and... he has no wings. Doesn't change anything.

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 00:19:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm just saying that some beings in the Gargoyles universe were actually gargoyles and mistaken for supernatural beings. I just can see gargoyles in Egypt since so many of the hieroglyphics were of animal headed humans. Yeah, I know they're gods and more like Oberon's Children, but you get what I mean.

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 00:24:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I get it. But since when is an "animal headed human" a Gargoyle? Oh, how I wish that they had put more care into the design of the London Gargs, and this would not happen again and again. :C

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 01:52:06 +0000 UTC]

In the Gargoyle universe, the Gargoyles appearance influenced certain aspects of ancient culture. Get it? The London Gargs resembled Heraldic animals.

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 02:16:10 +0000 UTC]

They influenced guardian figures, like stone "gargoyles" and chinese Fu-Dogs (Gargbeasts).
Other mythological stuff with different meanings than guarding something was influenced by the Third Race.

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 02:19:36 +0000 UTC]

They also influenced Tengu in Japan and the Feathered Serpent in Central America.

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 02:26:06 +0000 UTC]

I loved that show and their wiki is very detailed. Why were you surprised? You insulting me? DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 02:30:50 +0000 UTC]

It surprised me because it's rare to find someone who knows such details and yet makes no clear divide between Gargoyles and Children of Oberon.
I'm sorry, I don't want to insult you, I'm just a canon nazi who loves to state facts and discuss them. lol

It's true, the way the London Gargs are usally depicted is quite confusing and had a lot of influence on the way people see Gargoyles without understanding what the Gargoyle race really is. Sadly there are only very few people who try to make their Gargoyle nature more clear. Most people just draw furries, put wings on them, and that's it. Sad. :C

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 02:37:33 +0000 UTC]

I know the difference. XD It's just she resembled what I'd imagine an Egyptian Gargoyle to look like. I'd say the same for a hawk, hippo, or croc-headed one. If there were more Egyptian "gods", I'm sure they'd all be Oberon's Children, but not all of them are still around. Greg mentions that most of the Norse Pantheon was wiped out by their Ragnarok. Didn't destroy the world, but it was destructive and Odin was probably the only one left of that group.

There's a pretty big difference since gargoyles have a sort of even blend between human and animal-like characteristics.

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 14:49:47 +0000 UTC]

Since Anubis is a Child of Oberon I don't see a reason why the other "animal headed beings" should be exceptions... hey, I KNOW how easy it is to become a victim of this fallacy, simply because I can understand it. Ragnarok is probably also only a "problem" of the Norse Pantheon. I'm not sure if gods like these from Egypt, Greece or India were even affected. The European gods probably a bit more than these of other continents, if ever.

There are a lots of things I have no clue of XD But the Gargoyles universe and also Gargoyle biology is definitely NOT one of them. I also wrote long essays about different fanwork errors regarding Gargoyles, also one about Gargoyle evolution, but they are not in English. Otherwise I would link you to them.

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 15:46:03 +0000 UTC]

Of course Ragnarok didn't effect the others, I'm just saying some similar events could have effected other groups. Know what I mena?

Greg's been really good at detailing gargoyle biology and culture. He really went the extra mile when creating them.

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 17:14:15 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean. But I think that most Children just stopped intervening in mortal's lifes when Oberon said so.

Yes, definitely. But he's no biologist and he avoided certain topics.^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 17:17:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, probably just left or lived as humans for all we know.

Not much he has avoided though, he's given a pretty clear picture and you can see a race of beings like this existing. As it were.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

honk233arrrgh In reply to IronBloodAika [2013-01-20 17:29:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but he avoided evolution, mostly. The good part is that he made clear that Gargoyles are definitely not magical beings. But there are people who don't even care for THAT.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IronBloodAika In reply to honk233arrrgh [2013-01-20 17:47:06 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. They can USE magic, but only if they trained in it.

In a world with both science and the supernatural as a recurring them, it might have been for the best, though there was mentions of Holy Ground and Longinus' Spear in that non-canon crossover with Spectacular Spider-Man.
