Description Allosaurus fragilis was a predatory dinosaur that lived in America during the late Jurassic period (155-150 million years ago). It was discovered in 1877 by Charles Othniel Marsh, and was called Antrodemus for a while. Allosaurus was usually about 30 feet long, making it a very large predator in its time. Its prey included Stegosaurus and Diplodocus, as well as some smaller dinosaurs. In recent years, it was featured in the BBC TV documentary Walking With Dinosaurs and its own special, The Ballad of Big Al. This Allosaurus skeleton is on display at the Smithsonian.
