Description Casimir (Kazimierz) Pulaski was a Polish nobleman born in Warsaw in 1745. He led the Bar Confederation in the fight for Polish freedom from the Russian Empire. But the Bar Confederation rebellion failed, and Pulaski went to America to help the war for independence there. He was endorsed by Benjamin Franklin, and was made a brigadier general of the Continental Army by saving George Washington. As a general, he organized the American cavalry, which he led to victories at battles such as Brandywine and Germantown. Sadly, Pulaski was killed in 1779 at the battle of Savannah, Georgia. He became one of seven honorary American citizens, and this memorial dedicated to him was erected in Washington DC.

Well here in Chicago there are schools, museums, and a Holiday with parade for Pulaski. My son spent all nine of his elementary school years atΒ  Casimir Pulaski Academy. I'm honestly surprised that other states and cities don't recognize him as much.
