Description
This equestrian statue of King Henry IV of France, who was assassinated by a Catholic fundamentalist in 1610 after promulgating the Edict of Nantes in 1598 to end the Wars of Religion by promising religious freedom to Protestants, stands at Place de Pont Neuf on Île de la Cité in central Paris. The bronze statue was completed in 1818, and bears the Latin inscription:
