Description
This model at NRM York depicts an LNER ex-Great Eastern (GER) "Claud Hamilton"-type 4-4-0. These powerful express-passenger engines were introduced at the turn of the century, and several joined the LNER fleet in 1923, upon which they were repainted from blue to green. No. 8783 was a real Claud of the D16 "Super-Claud" class, and had the honor of being one of two Clauds assigned to the Royal train. Its number is being reused for Phoenix, a locomotive of the same type currently under construction.
