I love to see old fairy tales come to life.

I read this story when I was young;my favorite part was when the young protagonist smeared butter over the hinges of an entrance gate to keep it from creaking.

the character is from the ukrainian/russian story "babushka baba yaga"
I believe it's russian for "grandmother witch"

yep Baba Yaga is a Russina folktale. i always appreciated how Mignola put faces to these tales and made them seem as if he created them himself.

That is very sweet! I have been wanting to do a successful sculpt for years, I can never get the wire frame right or the bake afterwards it always cracks around the wireframe. I have looked for a good book, but still haven't found one. Anyway, I love the textures in the wood and the figure is really smooth. Like I said Sweet!

keep trying it's alot of fun. the bake time can be an issue. i have a couple of tips that have worked for me. one do the major shapes in small pieces, then combine them to create the final form. this technique is how i'm approaching my current sculpt. but it works for me because i will mold the pieces and get castings in resin. then reassemble them to be painted. i will ask one of the sculptors at work and see if he has any tips for your problem.

That sounds like a good tip...I was trying to make them all in one form around the frame. So with those major shapes are you using a frame? Then piecing them together? I appreciate you asking the sculptors for tips, thanks! I read on your blog that you were in product design, if you don't mind me asking what type of products do you work on?

i work in the exciting and glamorous toy industry. as to the shapes, you don't need a wire frame if they are small enough. but you must keep in mind the amount of mass that may be put on the final sculpt if you do it in sections. for example huge upper torso supported by spindally legs. lastly, you may want to use a heat gin to bake your sculpy. it's basically a really hot blow dryer.

Ah the toy industry I have wanted to do some stuff there. But of course I am sure I glamorized it a bit, easy to do when you don't work in it. Advertising can get a bit aaaa tedious. Thanks for the tips on sculpting. I will lose the frame. Should make things easier.

I agree that sculpting (digital or real world) is very relaxing. This is pretty cool! Very true to his style. If I had one suggestion, it would have been to find a different way to get her staff in there.

good poin about the staff. i wanted her to ook as if she was relaxing in a stationary pose. i at one point was goint to have only one hand holding the staff. but felt that this was more balanced.
