Description When faced with the possibility of returning to the Inner Sphere, the Clans started to look into the machines they had to see if they could be improved. The famed designers (at the time) Clan Coyote, studied all the machines taken with them into the exile to see if any had potential or were destined for spare parts.

One of which was the Hunchback. The machine was notorious as a vicious city fighter and famed for its battlefists and terrifying AC/20. Once it ran out of ammo though, the machine that the threat level of a medium/light mech. In addition, the machine felt it needed more protection.

As a result, they took apart an old Hunckback and started to tinker with it. The first things that had to go were the battlefists – they were only useful at hand-to-hand, but most warfare was ranged. Even close, ranged weaponry is still involved. Removing the hands was seen as a weakness, until the Clan installed extended ranged medium lasers. However, in the bid to upgrade the machine, they discovered that the arms had enough tensile strength to wield more. Large lasers were considered but there was a mech with a similar compliment in the form of the Hancock and it was good. The modified Hunchback deserved more, so PPCs with extended ranges to compliment the ER Lasers, were incorporated instead.

Also borrowed from the Hancock, Clan Coyote incorporated a SRM-6 but in doing so created ammunition problems for the AC/20. The relocating of the SRM-6 was planned but the removal of the AC/20 made the designers go for a bigger better weapon to see how far this new machine could go. They had spare weight to play with. The Ultra version was chosen to test its limits, and the ammunition feed to the SRM-6 was not a problem as first thought, but the relocation of the UAC/20 to the left was deliberate – a way of saying goodbye to the old Hunchback.

The machine’s weaponry however generated more heat, so the machine has an extra 10 double heatsinks added to cope. To give weight for armour and structural integrity, the standard fusion engine was replaced with an XL version at a rating of 300. Lobbed on top of this machine was 18 tons of ferrous-fibrous armor on the back of a very strong endo steel frame.

However when the machine went on test runs, it ran into numerous problems – the weapons typical, the missile system failed to respond, the UAC/20 vibrated too much when fired, and other glitches. It took Clan Coyote five years to perfect this machine. It is believed that part of their perfecting of the Omnimech technology extends from this experience – and the Nightmare is an Omnimech. Many believe it was christened the Nightmare not because of its ability but how long it took to perfect.

Nothing I can really add that other people haven't said, but...

I'd go for some newer tech if this is a Clan design, maybe put a HAG-30 on there.

This thing smells of pain. But I'd probably swap a little shit out.

4 ER Medium Lasers, good. ER PPCs, good. Ultra AC/20, probably swapped out with a Clan Gauss Rifle with a shitton of ammo, or a Heavy Gauss Rifle. Heavy Gauss + light/medium mech target = RAEP!!!

Heavy Gauss rifle would also be nice.. I just wanted to have an Ultra AAC/20 on this

Haha. Well, since it is a Clan design, it's not really surprising that they wouldn't use a Heavy Gauss. They might use a Hyper Assault Gauss 40 though... (It's the Gauss equivalent of an LB 20-X)

Now tat is one good looking Battlemech!
Although I would have put in a LB20X Rather than the Ultra. It seems every time I use an ultra I roll snake eyes on my first use and jam the Gods Damned thing. Lol. I also love rolling all those one point locations.

I love the Ultra AC/20 because it was always a lot of fun to use it in Mechwarrior 4 . Thanks

I have no idea what that looks like... but I hope it's a good thing that my Mech reminds you of it
