Description
Here's my drawing of two of the greatest characters from '80s cartoons.Although they never met on screen (as far as I know) - I thought it would be cool to depict them about to go into battle against each other. I've drawn their enemies Skeletor and Mumm-Ra as though they're looking on after having come up with the diabolical plot that pitted the two heroes against each other - probably some mysterious spell!
This is an original piece - first drawn with pencil on paper - then scanned and coloured in Photoshop using a Wacom tablet. As with all of my uploads - the resolution has been reduced here to speed up loading.

For some reason I'm imagining those two facing each other's enemies.
"Hmmm...undead appearance, army of freakish goons, evil plan complete with laugh, magic powers...if you're not the local version of (enemy's name), I'll eat my sword!"

I'd be kinda surprised if someone hasn't already done a comic of this - it seems like such an great match-up - but I can't recall ever seeing these two guys meet up? If only I had the time - I'd love to draw it myself!

! Wow... great point about Battlecat - that would be such a dramatic twist with him being conflicted about which side he's on!

Well, you could always make them stop in your art by having other heroes interfere after they found out they been set up. X-0

Yeah i guess their main similarity is that they were both some of the earliest cartoons to be made just to advertise toys. He-Man even had the lessons section at the end of every episode added so that they could pass as 'educational'! lol

Well there outfits are simaler, they both have a power sword, and both bad guys are undead like characters.

Tremendous work! Not entirely convinced about Lion-O's face but love the piece as a whole, especially the swords which really look the part! Would be great to see more of an action-shot of these two in proper battle rather than a face-off pose

I didn't say I didn't like Lion-O's face, but there is something that isn't quite right to me. I think it might be the general size with the square features, and maybe that is just because I'm so used to him looking a particular way.
Regardless, it is a superb piece, and I can't really judge when you compare it my limited skills

Well I think any opinion is valid - so I've no problem with you letting me know if something doesn't look quite right. When I drew Lion-O's face I wanted to do it in a 'painted' style - but I still wanted to retain the look of the cartoon version - so I didn't over-render it. Some painted versions I've seen look more 'realistic' - but they stop looking like 'Lion-O'. It's an interesting balance - and maybe this is what you're picking up on.

If He-Man and Lion-O went at it - it'd get ugly - and I don't like to think of my childhood heroes getting busted up. So in my mind Orco and Snarf (remember them) team up to find something to snap them out of it before they do any damage - and then they all track down Skeletor and Mumm-Ra...
