Description Alright, here she is!  Bette Kane, AKA Flamebird!!!

Bette Kane is the cousin of Kate Kane, AKA Batwoman.  When Bruce Wayne retired from his life as Batman, Nightwing took over the reigns.  However, she figured that, taking inspiration from her cousin, that Nightwing needed a sidekick of his own.  Since she found out through Kate that Nightwing took on his alias from a Kryptonian legend similar to Batman, Bette decided to take on a similar name from the Kryptonian vigilante's sidekick.  And thus was born Flamebird!!  Flamebird, however, proved to be nothing but an annoyance to Nightwing, as he already took on a mentorship to Tim Drake, the new Robin.  He was beginning to see what Bruce saw in Kate when she became Batwoman, but after remembering how great of a help Kate was, Dick gave Bette a talking to, telling her to reevaluate herself as Flamebird, that she could be a heroine in her own right and not just some sidekick.  Inspired by Nightwing's words, Bette decided to learn from the master himself and is now a current member of the Teen Titans!!

For Bette's look, I was inspired from her look in the comics, mostly.  Yet there are elements I added such as the orange Nightwing insignia, the similar looking mask and utility belt and the Batman inspired cape and gauntlets.  At Titans Academy, she is Nightwing's mentee, but doesn't go rushing up to him trying to get his attention for fear of an angry Starfire coming after her.  She's the best friend of Robin, Enigma, Nightstar, Bushido, Ravager, Miss Martian and Beast Boy, and a member of the Martial Arts Club.

Disclaimer:  Flamebird belongs to DC Comics, Tom Grummett and George Perez

I honestly think Bette Kane is very underrated. I was introduced to her in the Beast Boy mini-series, which was actually one of the first DC comics I ever read and it's still a favorite of mine. I feel like her friendship with Gar in the comics has unfortunately been forgotten even though they were actually pretty close, so I'm glad to see that she's friends with him here. I actually ship Bette and Gar, though I often feel like I'm the only one.

I actually own that mini-series as part of a graphic novel. That was the one where Madam Rouge’s daughter tries to get her revenge on Beast Boy, right? That was how I got to know her, even though she has been around since the Silver Age.

The Bette from the Silver Age is very different from the modern version of the character though. Originally both she and Batwoman were created as love interests for Bruce and Dick to show they're not gay. Which only makes having the modern Batwoman as a lesbian even more amusing.

Oh yes, I recall. A psychiatrist named Frederick Wertham began preaching on a soapbox against comic books back in the 50’s. He went round from prison to prison trying to find out what caused criminal behavior. One of the questions he asked was what the inmates read; he discovered that a lot of them read comics, which led him to believe that comics were destroying American society. He described Batman and Robin as being “like a wish dream of two homosexuals living together”. Of course, it is ironic that the modern Batwoman ended up being a lesbian.

The one and only, Bette Kane. Your take on the Flamebird outfit is good. The Nightwing inspired symbol on her chest and the Batman inspired gloves and utility belt are a nice blending of styles. This was worth the wait.

Thanks as always!!! Since the Titans faced off against Red Panzer in the comics, I'm having Bette state that for her, "F the Nazis is a family creed!" I'm also thinking of making her Nightrider's girlfriend.

Sounds good. As for her relationship state, she could be one of those who stay single, but she could still have a crush on Nightrider (in the comics, she had crushes but was never really in a full committed relationship, so it's up in the air).

Alright, the whole crush thing sounds good too! But then again, he is a vampire, so all the single Titan girls will have the hots for him.

Hmm, that will definitely be a challenge. Who to draw next on the roster...

Well, it could be the ones we talked about in your Titans Academy roster list. Those characters being Rock, Paper, and Scissors.

Ah! Of course we could go for those three. Or we could quite possibly go for Misfit, or even Proxy. I decided to give Wendy and Marvin practical roles rather than make them sidekick mascots like they were in Superfriends. Marvin is in charge of the IT telecommunications department, while also being under Cyborg's management. Wendy however is not only a superhero, but also the dorm mother of Titans Tower. Wonder Dog also is there as Wendy's personal pet, and not some JLA Scooby Doo ripoff.

I feel that Marvin and Wendy can wait until later. Misfit would be a good choice. Rock, Paper, and Scissors could come after her.

Yep, the.n it'll definitely be Misfit, then Rock Paper and Scissors, followed by Cassie Cain, AKA Batgirl.
