There used to be beautiful farms across the Flathead Valley, but they are quickly disappearing as people build their vacation homes and others move here to retire. Shaun and I decided that we would document as many of them as we could before they are all gone.I used to hate rainstorms, cowering inside until they had passed, but now I see them as an opportunity to take pictures with dramatic lighting. It was around sunset, which made the contrast in lighting even greater.

Thank-you very much! I love the area we live in, but the wide, open spaces are disappearing quickly. Many people have been building vacation homes here.

Thank-you, Laura! This is in our neighborhood, as well as a couple of other farms. I just hope they don't succumb to the pressure to sell. With so many millionaires buying up land here, it's much more profitable for the farmers to sell their land, and many have already.

I was wondering about that too, since I grew up in Hollywood. My husband says it's so they can back the hayloaders in to the conveyor belt. That takes the hay up to the loft, where it is stacked.
