question, how do you measure the wig cap? Do you randomly draw half-circle there? O.O I wanna do this but I just want to make sure

Measure around the circumference of the head, right above the ears, with measuring tape. Then whatever that number is, divide it in half, and that will be the length of the flat part of the half circle.

Yo so after you're done making the wig, you should soak it in fabric softener for a bit. It'll make the hair softer and easier to manage. This works best on Saran hair, but it'll work well on Kanekelon hair like wigs are made of.

Awesome! I didn't know that. I haven't made wigs in a long time but I'll definitely keep that in mind if I do again. Thanks!

No problem. I prowl around a lot on doll rerooting websites so I picked up a few tips.

No problem! Thank you! Hope it works for you! It's somewhat painstaking, but I like the ones I've made (the problem is, they're all crazy colors and I need an excuse to take pictures of them XD)

Thank you for that great tutorial! Just a brief question, do you think this would also work with a crotcheted wig cap....?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RodianAngel In reply to diepinkeEminenz [2014-06-03 14:13:54 +0000 UTC]

No problem!
It depends on how thick the cap is. It should be pretty thin so that the hair lays flat to the head, so if you're using crochet thread it might work, but I don't know how well yarn would. That being said, I've never tried it before, but I'm sure you could find some way to make it work!

This is a great tutorial. I already made 3 hats using your other tutorial. Now I can't wait to make wigs. I'm glad I won't have to buy them anymore.

Thanks for the tutorials.

3 hats, that's amazing! You should upload some pictures of them sometime! I hope the wigs turn out great for you too.
And it's no problem! I'm just really glad my tutorials can be useful.

I'll upload photos of the hats one of these days. I'm making so many things for all of my dolls right. Tutorials like your are a big help.

This is a great tutorial, and very useful, since bjd wigs can cost quite a bit. I was wondering though, for the wig cap that you made, what material did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RodianAngel In reply to Chai-fox137 [2014-01-04 03:53:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'm really not sure what the technical name is for the material I used for the wig cap, actually. It's just something stretchy and lightweight that had been sitting in my material box for a long time. It reminded me of thin t-shirt material. I haven't tried any other fabrics, but I would hazard a guess that a variety of thin, stretchy fabrics would work well. I've even heard through other wig tutorials of people using an actual BJD sillicone wig cap, too, which saves on sewing, I guess. XD
Hope this helps!

This is interesting. Most of the cheap wigs I see have really plasticy looking hair though. :/

RodianAngel In reply to Kogata-Yatsura [2013-11-09 03:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I knooow though, the hot pink and the blue wigs were so shiny and plastic-y, like you said! But I did manage to find some curly ones that were softer and more realistic.

Kogata-Yatsura In reply to RodianAngel [2013-11-09 09:26:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, if I manage to find some better ones, this tutorial will be useful. Thanks for sharing!

Whao! That actually looks really easy... How much are BJD Dolls...? *Snickers at Pullips* I bet this'll work for them too just you know, more hair and stuff. But the Hallows wig aisle was HUGE where I lived too *God wigs* There was actually an original doll wig in there too. o_o... Theorie needs like... 7 sisters or whatever, she's just too pretty in everything. Whelp this was supposed to be a comment not my life story, but here you a go. *Throws paper hearts at* For being awesome... *Throws flowers* For being inspirational.... *Flings picture of Madoka at ((Which I hope you've seen))* For your recent birthday! @ v @

It was a lot easier than I'd expected! BJDs are generally around 500 each... But there's a list on Den of Angels, the best BJD forum ever, of BJDs under 300. Hooray for lots of wigs!
XD I'm glad you like Theorie too! I'd love it if she had 7 sisters...
And thanks again for everything!! I did get the picture you made for me and I love it! I forgot to watch you while I was on a real computer and I can't do it on my phone... But I'll do it soon! ...let's see, HOW many emotes can I fit in one comment...?
