Description What can I say... Gorgeous Keira Knightley from Pirates of the Caribbean. No doubt one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

Well, it took me even longer than Jennifer , my previous photo-ref: a grand total of 14.5 hours split over 5 days. Same tools as before: one 0.5mm HB mechanical pencil (Pentel P205) and one 5.6mm 2B leadholder (Creatcolor 430 01), same paper: just one simple A4-sized copy-paper. And again no post-production, except some dirt-removal (photoshop). YEA, and a lot of music of course!

Hm, maybe some words to the drawing itself? K, the hair gave me some hard time again, and some parts look weird. Also, the lips were kinda difficult, and I don't know if got em right. But, I'm most content with the eyes, they were a lot easier that the last ones.

So, nuff said! As usual, comments and critics (and favs o'course ) are more than just welcome!

um, go to google and type "keira knightley palace" and it should be the first link. Whe your in there, it should be in fan art.........i dunno how to do those link things, sorry.

Oh I did find keira knightley palace alright, but I couldn't find my drawing in the fan art section. But copying links is easy: once you are on the page, click into the address-bar in your browser, select the whole thing, rightclick -> copy, and then paste me the link (rightclick -> paste).
If it's not too much of a hassle. Thanks

ThatΒ΄s great! The critique I had about it has already been said by others, so IΒ΄m gonna spare you it. I had actually planned to draw this picture too... darn. Well, it doesnΒ΄t matter I guess. I think itΒ΄s rather nice to see different versions of the same picture, anyone agree?

wow thats excellent! your whole gallery is great i think...this one is my favorite though. the hair looks perfect...lol ive actually drawn this same picture, but i love the way youve done the background and the hair...that was the hardest part for me...the only little flaws i think are that the lips arent quite at the right angle? i dont know...or possibly the shading...there needs to me more around the corner of her lips, and it needs to fade into her top lip too...and the right side of her face could be a little darker...since the photo itself it was really very dark...but otherwise its perfect, i really love it. you should definatly submit more portraits...keep up the great work!

rotane In reply to mistress-melania [2004-08-21 17:39:02 +0000 UTC]

you drew the same one? gotta see it! but it's not in your gallery i figured..

ok, now to your deep analysis: 't was actually really helpful.
- true, background and hair was very hard to do, i spent most the time with it.
- lips: well, they definitely look "twisted", but on the other hand, it's rather the perspective of the original foto where you can see the same effect. since the photographer must have been rather near her face, hence the weird perspective. at least that's what i figured.. but shading aint perfect, true -- thanks for your hints!
- face: again true, it could've been darker just like the photo, but i kinda wanted it not that dark. i actually lightened up the ref-photo so that i could see more of the details that were originally just black on black..

oh, and i rarely get the comment that my whole gallery is great, since i do so many different things. but thank you very much!

lol no mine isnt in my gallery...im hoping to put it up once i get a scanner....yeah her lips are kinda weird in the picture...its really hard to see if their rightly placed or not because the angle is so tilted funny...lol sorry for the deep analasys...its only because ive drawn it too and those are things ive just noticed with my own...and for the face, i wasnt sure if you meant to lighten it up or not...but it actually looks quite good lightened...she stands out more. lol and no poblem, your gallerys cool.

hehe, no need to be sorry for the deep analysis! as i said: it was helpful. also, i think one that has drawn off the sam reference is more likely to see these details, so, thanks!

If I were an art teacher I would cry, due to the fact your using a photo refferance, such a talent should not be squandered. But I am no art teacher, so let me say that your penciling work is amazing. Something seems off about her right eye though. Great show of lighting as well as line work. I find the way you show the hair to be great. Her ear seems to fade off weird in the darkness kinda like an elf. But I could be wrong. I see nothing wrong with this picture really. It is great, nothing more can be said by me, then what previous comments have already done.

rotane In reply to eli61087 [2004-08-12 00:08:33 +0000 UTC]

there is something wrong with her right eye, thats sad but true, and the matter already got diskussed earlier in the comments.

but i'm grateful that you think i could do w/o a foto-ref! but honestly, i would be totally clueless, at least i would have been here. hm, maybe if i do like 20 more then maybe i could close to something like that.. maybe
so thanks for the nice words.

As I saw it download on the Portrait Club thing, I was like 'Oh, Keira Knightly'. Very nice. Have you noticed how much she looks like Natalie Portman? These two actresses look a lot alike, but Natalie is more etheral and Keira is more real looking. Both stunning. Nice work!

I observed the eye as well closely. And i beleave it's the magic of this pose of this supurbly HOT female.
The chose you made in drawing this paticular shot of her is.... magic.
I dont know what else to say.. I made it a Favorite, but then wanted to make sure it was one of my fav's then removed it accedently, had to do it all over again.

I keep saying i liked that movie, but, i think it was her really.

well, never mind, i like getting comments thanks!

concerning the eye: well, it might seem so, you're right! but have you checked the movie poster? it's the same it's a matter of perspective i guess.. but i dont know that much about photography, so what do i know

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gerre In reply to rotane [2004-03-06 23:49:08 +0000 UTC]

hm, I don't like to criticise without knowing what it is that "off" exactly, so after a long study of your drawing and the photograph, I have to admit there's something strange going on with the way Keira looks into the camera in the photograph. Her right eye looks straight into the camera, while her left eye seems like it's drifting slightly more to the left of the screen. In your picture, that contrast is a little bit bigger, because you made the white space around the iris clearer. This is clearer if you cover each eye seperately with your hand. The left eye is also just a teensy bit narrower than on the photo.

however, should you browse my gallery, you may notice the complete lack of portraits there, so I don't want to presume knowing a lot about it, or indeed being any good at it.

Your picture inspires me to make some more portraits though, so thanks! And again, I really like this picture. I especially like how you did the hair and shading.
