Description
This is admittedly an awkward piece in composition, but Im actually really proud of the colors and especially the feather detail. The Vulture is referenced from a picture I took at a local park that I thought was a perfect foreboding pose. I added the girl underneath to suggest that she is being guided by or perceiving what the vulture spirit sees. At first I was going to leave out the shoulders and have just those front locks of hair in the picture, give an abstract background, but then I thought adding too much color around the figures would distract from the beauty of the feathers, especially the upper left section, so I added the shoulders, hair, and background to cement the figure in a realistic plane. The title refers to the spiritual exercise of grounding or grounding and centering that many pagans or shamanic practitioners perform as a daily meditation or before a ritual or longer meditation. I felt like the weight of the vulture is being drawn down over her, almost as a protective shield. I may attempt to get a better picture if the guy at the copy shop who keeps giving my work awkward titles isnt there... Last time it was "horny chick" and "Naked chick"... Not cool.
