Author's Note: Yes, this is the Earth-27 version of the Amazon "Artemis". Her name was changed to be reflective of her alternative origin (making her Irish instead of Egyptian due to her complexion and red hair, and the name of her Amazonian Tribe 'Bana-Mighdall' always looking more Irish than Egyptian to me), as well as to avoid confusing her with the Greek Goddess (which again didn't make sense for her being named after her given that the Egyptian Bana-Mighdall didn't worship the Greek Gods like normal Amazons) and another famous DC heroine archer named Artemis Crock.

Question, how long did it take for you to find a culture with a word similar to "Mighdall" in its language? Or did you just make it up? Either way I'm fine with it, I'm just curious.

Probably not... at least there are no plans at this time. I won't rule him out though.

To be honest, I'm not that familiar with the hero.

Basically, he's the Gargarean (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargar… ) counterpart to Wonder Woman. He was created out of Zeus's desire to make a new race of heroes to do that which he felt the Amazons have failed. Zeus made him from the heart of Kane Milohai, the god who gave Diana his blessing when the Olympians abandoned the world. Zeus calls him Achilles. Here's his full bio; comicvine.gamespot.com/the-oly…

Okay before I go any further I just want to say this:

SHE'S IRISH!! SCAN HER, THERE'S GREEN BLOOD BUMPING TROO THEM VEINS!

Okay I'm sorry, I really just had to say that. Since Andy got me into Wonder Woman I have been eager to learn more about her background and it seems Earth 27 has not let me down in that quest. Here we have a warrior in heart, body, mind and soul and I think she's absolutely fantastic. Resolute in her beliefs (if not a bit set in her ways, fortunately batman is big enough to see past that) and just the kind of hardass we need calling the shots as minister of war. Excellent work.

yeah, makes perfect sense for her character and opens the field for a lot of Irish backlog. Also best keep Lizzie away from her, Artemis may take a liking to the little scottish brawny genius

Roysovitch In reply to delta808th [2016-10-11 18:56:47 +0000 UTC]

1. So as to avoid confusion with the Greek Goddess of the same name and Artemis Crock.

2. Because in the comics she was Egyptian and it made no sense for her to be named Artemis.

3. Because again she was Egyptian and had red hair and fair skin, which made no sense, so I made her Irish and named her Andraste which is a very similar goddess.

I don't really think it matters if it is all confusing. I mean don't you want it to be accurate to the comics? But if you need to change the name fine, but why don't you just make her greek?

Some people prefer expectation over exploration. I do not. If I am going to do this project, I am going to forge my own way. While I stick to the established trail when it is the best path, I am still going to go trailblazing if I think I can take a character or plot in an interesting direction.
Some people may take issue with it. That is fine. But others like this take on the character or other changes I have made, so there is my vindication.
I am sorry if you are confused.

Thank you for the enormous effort you put in to make Artemis/Requiem/Andraste make more sense spatially. I never understood how DC thought making a pale skinned, red headed woman from Egypt makes any kind of sense. I guess there is a small one, but you're better off winning the lottery. I thought "Bana-Mighdall" seemed more Norse than Egyptian as well.

After reading up on things online, I'm surprised you didn't make her one of the younger or youngest Amazons being born at around 50 or 60 AD and giving her a connection to Boudica. I know you can only fit so much info in the profiles, so I'm assuming the E-27 version of her is just a skilled warrior and huntress with no magical talents? So, she has taken up the role of Wonder Woman whenever Diana is unavailable, has Donna taken it up as well? Or was it just Wonder Girl, then straight to Darkstar?

I have some fun, but seemingly unrelated questions. Who did you hear in your head as Donna and Andraste while you where you were typing the VOX? Secondly, I know there's more than one, but how does the Batwing look in E-27? Is it more the Animated Series or in the Arkham games? Is it really faster than her ARGUS "gift"?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Roysovitch In reply to AzureVirgo [2016-10-05 20:03:53 +0000 UTC]

Batwing looks like this:Β  Β Ha ha... Not but seriously, I usually see the Batwing looking like the Animated Batwing from Justice League or Batman the Animated Series... Sometimes as the one from BvS.

And while the speeds of the Javelins (which WW's jet is) and Batwing are comparable, I'd give the edge to Batman... if nothing else, due to his superior piloting skill.

I don't know whose voices I hear for Donna and Andraste. I hear the SBFF Donna's voice www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7ging… just an Irish accented voice for Andraste.

Donna never wanted to be Wonder Woman as she never was that fond of even being "Wonder Girl" so she went to Darkstar.

Andraste has the same magical abilities that all Amazons have (namely quasi-immortality), superhuman strength, superhuman resilience, and superhuman reflexes. Aside from that, she is extremely gifted warrior even as far as Amazons are concerned and has continually honed her skills in the areas of swordfighting, archery, hunting, and horseback riding to near perfection. Also, I had to cut mention of her own excursions into the mortal realm... one of which hinted at a connection to Boudica.

Sooooo, this is the second time on vox that Donna's gotten into a fight with one of her sisters.
I'm starting to wonder if it's an Amazon thing or a really a Donna thing

So the separation and re-joinning of the tribes happens way before modern times; that's a cool way to go.
Andraste is an interesting name, what does it mean?

Yes and no...

I would make them for NeOlympus (a series I discussed in a past E27 Journal) and use those for E-27 as well. Since I am using my research for that to curb my handling of E27 mythology based characters.

Veherzak [2016-10-05 14:25:24 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Ok. Very interesting. I'm not sure I prefer it to her original backstory but it's still pretty good.

I still think you could have found a better option than Requiem myself but it makes more sense as a deed name (was there a particular reason not to use Shim'Tar out of interest?). And I definitely like that you kept her named after a goddess. Or, given the time frame, perhaps the goddess was named after her?

I will say that I definitely like her being taller than Diana. I always thought she should be taller but leaner than WW.

Oh, one thing - initially, she's elected to lead the raiding parties but then she's suddenly making decisions for her whole tribe and 'the' leader. It feels like there's a step missing there in terms of her promotion.

Oops - nearly forgot to add that I love how snarky she is in the chat. That's very, very well written not-Artemis dialogue, in my opinion at least. So kudos.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Roysovitch In reply to Veherzak [2016-10-05 14:49:06 +0000 UTC]

To each their own.

I couldn't find any actual translation of Shim'Tar, so in the Amazon language I decided that Shim'Tar means: "The Requiem". I originally had that in there but I had to cut that nugget of info to fit in everything else I wanted to include.
The goddess was named after her.

Leading the raiding parties was an essential part of their life. The one who led the raiding parties led the tribe. Another thing I had to cut due to space considerations.

And thanks(?)
