Yeah, this skin (and all of my other skins as well) only works with the older version of the Steam GUI.

How do you make your skins? With Steam Paint?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rthaut In reply to Tahko-The-Virus [2009-12-05 01:26:44 +0000 UTC]
No, I use Photoshop and Notepad. Steam Paint is very, very limited. I actually recommend people avoid it if they are serious about skinning Steam.

Hmm, I looked through all the TGA files, but I don't really see the images that I see in the Steam skin. It's confusing, lol.

hey man me and my friend installed this skin for steam and it is amazing
only complaint is when you play half life 1 games the steam overlay there is a white border on the friends list. its a bug we both have it
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rthaut In reply to corey407woc [2009-07-02 16:48:20 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that is a bug with the overlay engine in the old Half Life games. The only way for me to fix it would be to remove some shadows, which I don't plan on doing. Hopefully Valve will fix the engine sometime soon to correct the issue.

Yeah, I hear that quite often. Unfortunately, I also have heard people love the red lines. So I added a set of simple steps for removing the red lines in the description.

Thank you very much for this very beautyfull skin but it seems I have a little problem. When I use the in-game interface, friends messenger looks like the image below.

Is it possible to remove these white stripes?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
rthaut In reply to BGuardian [2008-10-06 01:17:46 +0000 UTC]
I have not found out how to do so, as it only appears in the old games, like CS 1.6. Most of my skins have that same problem, so if I ever figure out how to fix it, I will update all of them.

I don't like the background, and the red text needs to go because red on black isn't that good on the eyes.
Everything else is fine, no real complaints, it's just those that stick out.
Slate is absolutely amazing though.

rthaut In reply to Gvaz [2008-09-11 04:01:28 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for the feedback; I really do appreciate it.
The background is a little weird, but it is better than just a solid color, as the rest of the skin is very "complex" with all of the gradients and hover effects. A few people have emailed me about the red color, but most people really like it, and it is bad design to not have a secondary color. Also, it isn't any brighter/stronger than the color of most of the text found throughout the skin, so I saw no reason to remove it.
I can always send you instructions on how to remove the background and/or the red, if you would like.

Removing red lines is fast & easy, but removing Pattern.tga cause a Steambug. You can just modify the file with an image editor like Photoshop.
Check out here to see the render : [link]

Sure thing; let me know if you need help.
I would suggest you install Notepad++, which is a free replacement for the default Notepad program that comes with Windows. It will allow you to search for a few things in a long file and edit them easily, as well as showing you the line numbers.
To remove the red elements:
1.) Go into the Carbon folder (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\skins\)
2.) Go into the Resource folder
3.) Open SteamScheme.res in any text editor (Notepad works great, but I STRONGLY recommend Notepad++)
4.) Replace all instances of "168 000 000 255" with "168 168 168 255" (4 total: Lines 29, 56, 591 157)
5.) Replace all instances of "224 000 000 255" with "244 244 244 255" (1 total: Line 30)
6.) Save and restart Steam
To remove the Carbon background:
1.) Go into the Carbon folder (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\skins\)
2.) Go into the Graphics folder
3.) Delete Pattern.tga (or, better yet, rename it or change its extension, just in case)
4.) Restart Steam
