Riku, again?!His eyes couldn't lie? Why couldn't they? \o_o/
Was he trying to decieve himself? This started out as a sketch exercise, then turned into coloring practice. I like lots of color.
Have a happy Fourth, everyone. Don't explode yourself, please!
Edit: .... I totally changed the colors behind him, lol. They used to be yellow on white.

I think the blindfold gave Riku a coolness,but kinda sad he lost that fight against Roxas(I have a feeling the blindfold didn't help).Nice,I'm a Riku fan girl too.

Well, my theory on why his "Eyes Couldn't Lie" is because...
*GASP!* Okay, When he met Ansem the Wise (DiZ), he was told to go find Roxas to help Sora wake up. Riku, caring deeply about Sora (the way shape and form of love, you decide for yourself), left without a word, blinding himself because if he thought he was stabbing Sora in the gut, he wouldn't be able to do it.
Because "I see myself the way you remember me, and you see yourself the way I remember you."
Well, Riku was able to see Namine as Namine because Sora REMEMBERED her as Namine. Namine saw herself as both Kairi and Namine, and she saw Sora as Sora because changing appearance only works for Nobodies, yes? Riku was able to see Namine as Namine because she knew him from Sora's memories.. so in a way, they were already deeply connected without him knowing. Namine also probably WANTED Riku to see her as Namine because she needed to ask him about his memories.
And EARLIER, *pantpant* Riku met Kairi in the light, but was it REALLY Kairi? It could have just as easily been Namine, because that's who Riku remembers her as. PLUS Namine would have WANTED Riku to see her as Kairi or else Riku wouldn't have listened. And then, when he sees Namine the SECOND time, he would have already met her therefore would be able to see her normally.
SO THEREFORE, when Riku goes to fight Roxas, he wouldn't remember Roxas. He's never met Roxas and Roxas has never tried to contact him. Roxas doesn't know about him. And if Roxas saw himself as Sora it wouldn't have made that much of a difference, because he had already come to terms with himself that he was just a shadow of somebody. Savvy? Riku would have seen him as Sora and that's when Roxas would have taken advantage of him, defeating Riku. So Riku had to blind himself. How would Riku know all this? SIMPLE! DiZ would have told him. Easily.
BUT Riku LOSES the fight, right? BUT IN KH2, IT SHOWS HIM WINNING! So you think, "Geez, that's confusing!"
But it's not. Remember "Another Side, Another Story?" The secret ending to KH1??? BINGO! Riku takes OFF his blindfold before the fight is over! That's why when it shows Riku walking towards Roxas after Riku "wins", the screen blacks out. Then Riku says he LOST that fight and came back later as Ansem. He lost it because as soon as he had Roxas on the ground, he took off his blindfold in front of Roxas, and Roxas took advantage of that and defeated Riku.
But how can Riku see without sight? In COM (and in the Manga), he says that Darkness has seeped into his senses, strengthening them and altering them. That's how he was able to, cough cough, "defeat" Roxas whilst wearing the blindfold. It was because he didn't need eyes to see. He couldn't let his eyes lie to him.
Furthermore, Sora is able to see Riku at the end of the game for who he really is when Kairi is there. That's because Kairi's LIGHT alters and seeps into her senses, changing them for HER. It's the same with Riku's darkness. But Sora can't do this because 1) He doesn't have a pure heart and 2) He didn't get his powers from the Darkness.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
*gasp!*
But that's just what I think. XD

That is one of the most comprehensive theories on the blindfold I've ever read. Awesome!! I'm going to have to go back and see the secret ending to KHI again for that, but that really makes a lot of sense. This makes me realize all the times when the characters see other characters as different things and people.

I like how the background kinda symbolizes him taking off the bandana (?), but if I may make a small crit? Circles maybe wasn't the best to do, 'cause it makes him really stand out, y'know?
'Cause he has a nice soft tone about him (the shading 'n at is VERY pretty) but the background is sharp. But I really love the shading and highlighting. ^.^

I actually squealed when he turns from 'Ansem' into blindfold!Riku. And again when he took off his coat... even though the coat is, in my taste, a whole lot better than his clothes. Add the blindfold and you have me doing the fangirl 'eeeeeeeee' every time.

Maybe the whole deal about his blindfold was because he wanted to fool himself. He knew he went too deep into the darkness and everything which he tried to protect, all of the things he tried to do went out of his control. Just like what he said that "we'll be the darkness." He figures that he might as well become one with the darkness. Lolz I'm probably not making any sense...but oh well.
But I really like how the color is breaking through the darkness is like that moment when he takes off the blindfold. The light is finally coming back and he can leave the darkness. ^-^ Don't know if that's what you intended but the imagery is great. ^^ *favs*
