I typed out a full and detailed explanation of what happened to my nuzlocke comic, but deviantart decided to be a sod and have an error, thus losing it all. Short version is that my nuzlocke was rubbish and unexciting, most of all for me, so I've set it aside to draw something more interesting.

Two trainers, each specialising in a single type. For the one, the Ground type, for the other, the Steel type. I'm being more ambitious with everything on this one and I'm working with a better writer than myself for it, too, so we'll see how it goes.

Specific rules will be explained in the next comic.

Enjoy.

Thanks, man, glad you enjoyed it. I'd worried that abandoning my previous series to work on this one instead might lose me all my readers so it's relieving to see people enjoying it.

Although I also found your nuzlocke to be awesome and funny, this new series definitely seems more fun to read!

Heh heh, thanks, mate. It's significantly more fun to write and to draw, I assure you.

And thats why you use fire, not batteries. Because you can re light it if it goes out.

Fair point, but difficult if one doesn't have a fire type.

I've not yet decided how long I want these two to be stuck in caves, but they are gonna be scratching around in some rather odd places. Essentially they're going to be staying well off the 'beaten track', as it were, since if you want to read that you can go read a nuzlocke by someone who can draw.
I'm shooting to do something a bit different with this, though whether or not I can pull it off remains to be seen.

Thanks very much. Personally I've never considered anything I've done 'art', but I do keep trying to develop my drawings to look recognisable as my own.

Atlanta-Lemento In reply to RuHasADemon [2011-08-10 09:22:19 +0000 UTC]

Well art isn't always a painting or whatever stereotypical art is.. (im not exactly the best at saying this haha..)your drawings are art too.
Good to keep your own style I really love the character designs too, unusual for a nuzlocke as well as the fact that two adults are the main characters. Different Nuzlockes are such a rarity this is great to see!
Looks like it's going to be an interesting nuzlocke Good luck!

Cheers. Personally I've been playing pokemon since they first came out, and I was 10 when I firt started playing Blue. Unfortunately, unlike Ash, I have aged over the last decade, and I don't choose to write characters younger than myself for the main protagonists, since I feel I've a lot more to say as a 20-something than I ever did when I was 10.

Atlanta-Lemento In reply to RuHasADemon [2011-08-13 12:05:43 +0000 UTC]

Haha so true about Ash
Yes it'd be no fun writing characters younger then yourself (well it could be interesting I suppose) you know more now then you ever did then and have got more to say and I guess it's just easier. I dunno Im only 14 and usually write about characters older than myself. *shrugs*
It's a nice change from all the identical teenagers in Nuzlockes though

Much obliged. Frankly Jon and I may well act immature from time to time (I make cartoons for a living, for crying out loud, how could I -not- be immature?!), but we do show our age as often as not too. Hopefully this will be a slightly different flavour to what you're used to.

Most sensible! I've never quite understood why in dark caves one must rely on Flash. I'd be taking some torches and lanterns in with me!

If Running Shoes are a key item, I don't think a source of light for dark places is too much to ask.

'Course, it's more pure fail when you're hurtling down the side of a mountain after having fled a horde of wild Woobat. I'm sure he'll be fine, though.

RuHasADemon In reply to Piradeux [2011-08-05 20:07:35 +0000 UTC]

Cheers. I'm going to try to incorporate some classic slapstick elements to my favourite brand of character comedy: childish bickering.
The dialogue for this comic is entirely the sort of thing my flatmate and I bicker about all the time, so it's easy to write.

Piradeux In reply to RuHasADemon [2011-08-05 23:52:12 +0000 UTC]

That should be interesting then haha. One question is how did you decide the types for both of the trainers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RuHasADemon In reply to Piradeux [2011-08-06 01:20:35 +0000 UTC]

Basically the trainers are based on myself and my flatmate, and the types (and indeed the idea for this comic) come from many of our regular conversations regarding various subjects. One time the question was posed "if you could only use one pokemon type what would you use and what would be in your party", and after much deliberation I decided I would use the ground type, and he the steel type. Sadly this gives me a huge advantage over him in battles, but we're each training our parties for the inevitable climactic bout.

Piradeux In reply to RuHasADemon [2011-08-06 01:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Thats true. There are only three Pokemon he could catch that would have an advantage over your ground types. You better hope he doesn't catch a Piplup or Ferroseed, but overall you have the advantage

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RuHasADemon In reply to Piradeux [2011-08-06 03:30:51 +0000 UTC]

Actually his main bet is Magnet Rise, but I've got a plan of my own. Should be interesting to see how the rivalry plays out, since I have the advantage but he is the more diligent trainer.

Piradeux In reply to RuHasADemon [2011-08-06 17:02:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true. Is this still going to be done out like a Nuzlocke or are the Pokemon safe from fainting? Sorry just very curious about this haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RuHasADemon In reply to Piradeux [2011-08-06 17:39:42 +0000 UTC]

It's being done as a Nuzlocke still, so there are still deaths to come, but obviously due to the limitations of only being allowed one type each instead of being allowed to catch one pokemon from each area we enter, instead we compiled a list of each unevolved pokemon of our respective types, and we used a random number generator to give us a 'random' encounter at various points during the story.
I'll explain the rules on that more thoroughly next week but it basically meant that we had several instances where I was left saying "C'mon, Hippopotas!" and not getting one!

RuHasADemon In reply to ThePinkStalker [2011-08-05 20:06:27 +0000 UTC]

Zubats are the focus of far too much impotent rage already, there had to be some replacement bats. Amuses me how they tried to make Woobat less hated by sticking hearts on it.
